Like I’ve said, I’m blown away that this isn’t all over the news, given all the vehicles this system is in.

Worse, given how many vehicles are affected, you’d think they’d be working crazy hard to get it sorted out asap.

I’m going on 17 months with features not working as advertised. It’s insane.

I purchased a new 2022 Durango R/T Plus on Sept. 30. Build number FCA-MY21-R 17.98-PROD. When I drove it home the traffic flow and weather was not working. After two days it started hooking up showing traffic and weather and has worked every day since then when I start the vehicle. Everything else within the system works perfectly as well. Maybe I am one of the lucky ones.

Add another one. Won't be getting this fixed for a while thank to that damn hurricane. 🤬
I was told by the service advisory that they have a lot of complaints for this same issue and there is some kind of update for the module on the way to fix this specific error. He didn’t have an ETA or anything yet but he has a handful of escalations in progress from various Dodge/Jeep vehicles.

There is a TSB for the module issue dated 9/2022 so as usual, the dealer is in the dark because they want to be. idiots

I've gotten that notice probably 5 times since I've owned my 2021. A couple times, it's persisted beyond cycling the ignition. But I've had luck just long pressing the power/volume button. That doesn't seem to reset the unit like it usually does, but somehow clears the failure and the Uconnect5 just starts working again. Really a strange thing.

Seriously????? Seriously? Back to the dealer again

so... this just popped up on my screen this morning. I did the Power hold down reboot and everything was fine (so far) after that.

weird thing is my unit has 9mo/12k miles of service and I've been on R17.98 software since I took delivery in Dec '21.

I'm assuming this is a hardware related issue. we'll see if this persists for mine.

Release Date: September 2022
Symptom/Vehicle Issue: Uconnect Box Error Message On Radio Screen And Diagnostic Trouble
Code (DTC) code B22A9-96 Set
Discussion: The customer may report “Uconnect Box requires service” error popup on radio screen
every time the vehicle starts. wiTECH shows active DTC B22A9-96 (ECU internal performance) set
by Telematics Box Module 2, (TBM2).
Engineering is looking into this code and is looking for error code details in the TBM2 data if code is
set active. Please add a scan report and this DTC data to the Repair Order (R/O) information. If a
Star case is opened, please provide the data in the Star case. Here is the procedure:
Please use wiTECH tool to check the TBM2 data.
Select TBM2 module -> Data tab -> ECU internal fails screen and record the value of:
Modem – fail, Yes / No
SIM module – fail, Yes / No
GNSS/Modem receiver – fail, Yes / No
Wi-Fi module – fail, Yes / No
Accelerometer E60 – fail, Yes / No
Log the name and “value” (yes/no) of those items to R/O and/or the STAR case.
If all the ECU internal fails values are set to fail, communication between vehicle controller and
modem is not working. Please check the harness connections and reset the TBM to recover.
If one of the ECU internal fails value is sent to fail, it indicates a component failure. Check harness
connections and update TBM2 software if any available.

Diagnosis / Repair:
1. Check the TBM2 software version and update the TBM2 if service software is available.
2. Verify if Uconnect box error message disappeared and DTC went stored.
3. If the issue continues, pull out the TBM2 module fuse.
4. Disconnect all TBM2 harness connectors.
5. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
6. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
7. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for
connector improper installation, connector lock damage, corrosion, water intrusion, bent
terminals, overheating or terminal discolored, terminals pushed out.
Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
8. Repair any conditions that are found.
9. Reconnect all TBM2 harness connectors and in-line harness connectors and related
component harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated, and
the connector locks are fully engaged.
10. Plug in the TBM fuse.
11. Perform Proxi and TBM2 hard reset.
12. Erase the DTCs and perform wiTech scan again.
13. Replace the TBM2 module, if B22A9-96 DTC is still active.

Interesting... mine is definitely not "every time the vehicle starts", but rather once every blue moon...

New issue. It used to do this when I would go in certain areas where maybe there was microwave antennas or things like that where the Bluetooth with kind of black out for a little bit and then come back in. Usually, if I would switch to a different screen and then switch back to CarPlay it would come back up with the correct screen showing Apple CarPlay. Yesterday it stayed black from the time I got in the car until the end of the day. Today I did a factory reset and after the climate finally got back to normal after I restarted the car a couple of times the CarPlay is still on black background with nothing showing. I guess another inquiry to get a star service order started to see if this can be corrected before my warranty is out of date because I’m coming up on 36,000 miles here.

I just had this same issue with Android Auto. My Samsung updated the other day and the screen was black when I got into my Durango.
I uninstalled AA and reinstalled it with the same issue. I finally found that the default AA app was empty in the AA settings of my phone. I added a default app (waze) for AA to use when it connects and since then everything is working fine.

Yeah this has been an issue for me since the beginning. I have several areas in town where CarPlay cuts out completely and the screen goes black. It’s almost like the WiFi in the Durango is overwhelmed/being walked on and can’t communicate to the phone anymore. I don’t think they will fix this issue sadly.

Mine has been mostly all good. Early on i had to re pair my iPhone once. I had a black screen, unresponsive but a click on the SRT hard button took me to the SRT page and everything returned to normal. No issues since then. Version 98 since new.

@Vice-White yeah, I finally got the right order to factory reset the UConnect as well as restart my iPhone and the screen came back to life. As we all know that these things are frustrating and different glitches keep popping up, and it doesn’t drive hope for a “forever” fix. Buy a premium product with wal-mart quality appliances.

@S8ER01Z I agree. There are definitely several areas where either microwave antennas are placed as well as high tension power lines where it is predictable that my Bluetooth connected phone will glitch sound, the screen will turn black and my Bluetooth connection is lost. A good portion of the time it will reconnect by simply restarting the HU, but other times the HU seems to get thrown for a loop, only to recover overnight. It’ll play the radio, and if I connect my phone by USB it will play the music on my phone, and even allow calls to come in. However, if I ask Siri to text someone, both the HU and the phone revert to before ask Siri and not allow it to happen unless I disconnect my phone. Even talk to text will be rejected at these times. Frustrating and distracting especially while driving.

Not really, Walmart would give you your money back, no questions asked. Their customer service is way better than Stellantis' customer service. Maybe Walmart should build vehicles!
