Just double checking, is canbus required? And for the 14+ do they work without resistors since the rear turn signals are LED? I have a pair of V3 Tritons but with the wrong sockets from another car, I'm trying to debate if it's worth spending the $20+ for adapters to make it work or just buy another set of bulbs.

Yes can bus is needed. your truck does a bulb check.

Thanks, I saw somewhere else that someone said no resistor is needed, can anyone confirm?

I think the confusion lies within a different package that is no longer offered. Correct me if I'm wrong but previously the package listed on vleds.com came with resistors automatically. Now its offered as an addon.

The set of Tritons I have are from when they first came out so the plugs and the resistors are different, so I can't get just the new plug, I need adapters too and the cost would be the same as buying a set of eBay bulbs. The Tritons are excellent but they're not 5x better than eBay bulbs, I'd rather try to sell that pair for $80 or so and just get some $20 bulbs that work without adding resistors.

I have a 2014 sxt and just put these pilot 3157 bulbs in.
they work with the headlights off no problem
but when the headlighs n foglights are on i get a hyperflash on the dash and a bulb out error on either side im signaling but the led still blinks normally. anyone have an idea why this is happening?
The same thing happened to me. Front and rear signals flashed normally, dash and mirror hyperflashed and got bulb out warning. I just replaced them with these and the problem went away: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PHTXWQS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

Sorry for my question in this older thread, i have a 2011 DD and i want to modify the front turn signal and DRL to LED. My manual says, these are 7444na sockets, you all write about 3157, does they also fit or are there different sockets? And what kind of socket, ist it standard base or ck type?

thanks

Ok I am sold on the V3 Tritons for my 2014 but do I need the resistors or switchbacks? This thread confused me a little to say the least. I think all I need is the standard 3157 not CK without the resistors but am not 100% sure.

Resistors are needed for most led bulb conversions to stop "hyperflashing", led bulbs pull much less wattage while working so your truck thinks that the bulb is out when it is actually functioning correctly, causing the so called "hyperflashing" ( fast turn signal flashing to alert you of a bulb failure).
The Switchback bulb is simply a bulb that has two modes of operation with two colors- White while parking lights are on then changes to amber when activating turn signals.

Yes you need the resistor but they don't have to be switch backs which will save a lil $$
Get Amber bulb or white and resistor kit as well the 3157 socket adapter .

Great so I could go with the 3157 plus resistor kit and if I want to spend a little more can do the switchbacks which I would assume only work if I am driving with the parking lights on? I cant remember if the signal bulb is illuminated with the driving lights on?

If your truck doesn't have drl then it uses the front turn signals for running lights and turn signals then you could use switch backs.
If you have drl ,switch backs are a waste of money

Actually, at least on mine, those lights aren't even on as running lights, but they are on with the parking lights. I've thought about putting switchbacks in mine to make up for DRLs but never ended up doing it since my wife is the primary driver.

I wound up using some JDM AStar canbus bulbs from Amazon, they work fine on my 15 R/T with no resistors added. I didn't notice they were turn signal only and not parking/running lights til I swapped the bulbs over, never looked that close at the front end before.

I can confirm that the above bulbs from Amazon work on my '14 RT. Very bright compared to the Sylvania bulbs, and no special resistor required.
