I am very versed in the old 80’s turbos. I had this car for almost 30 years. Fully built running 28-34 lbs of boost ( depended if I was loosing, lol) I ran the meth injection and it worked wonders on that car, being able to run high boost with pump gas. Never did run a turbo timer, the mopars had a coolant cooled cartridge for the turbo. In the one pic you can see two lines running to it instead of one. This took a lot of heat out of it to prevent oil coking. Not sure about the ford 2.3, but a lot of the cars in that era just had an oil lubed cartridge, it was not cooled. I had a buddy down in Florida that swapped a 2.3 out of an SVO into a Capri. Pretty bland looking, but quick car. We used to go out and troll all the V-8 guys. This was quite a while ago, when a decently built street car was 450 HP or so. We hurt a lot of feelings! Hell, these days, no way I could hang with what OEM’s are offering. Thanks for some good old memories!!!!
We owned two of them back in the day. My favorite was our Charger GLH... You could dump the clutch and do cool front-wheel burnouts. The Fox Body 5.0 boys back in the day could barely lay a patch. That little Charger could kill anything stop light to stop light of the same era. I never ran into a GNX so I don't know about that one.

Loved all those cars you spoke of. GN’s had to have the wick turned up pretty decent to get past me. The car was hard to launch, even with a Quaife LSD. I would normally loose off the line, it was better to bog it than to launch under boost. The boost came in like a hammer, I loved reeling them in and blowing by. From a roll was much better, brake boost made it roll on really hard. Much like the SRT4’s at the time they were considered throw away cars. Both are still cool for me to see to this day.
To not derail the thread.
I am looking forward to this engine and hope they did their research/testing and it comes out the gate strong. I think the tuners would love this thing. From what I can tell, Mother Mopar is building their new platforms with ability to be electric or ICE. I think this is a smart safety net and would love to see this in several platforms. Too early to tell if EV’s will ever become mainstream, I have my doubts. My 2011 Durango R/T is still going strong and the lifetime warranty has been worth its weight in gold. But at 200K I do get a little more nervous to take it on long trips. I would love to see the Hurricane make it into the Grand Cherokee as that’s what I am considering replace the Durango with. Time will tell!

Rumor since last summer is that the 4th gen Durango will be a body-on-frame behemoth a la Wagoneer, built at Warren Truck.

I don't think there have been any official releases about the future of the Durango after 2023.
In other words they will make it so expensive that half of us won't be able to afford the next gen . It doesnt need to be any bigger
than it already is . I wish they would bring out a next gen the same size with anormally aspirated I6 . That would be more than adequate
in a vehicle of the current size and less things to go wrong. . I still hear of too may turbo issues with modern turbos . Ask the people who own FORDs with turbo issues .

I beg to differ that the Fox Body boys back in the day (or today for that matter) could barely lay a patch.

248K on our 2016 Citadel 3.6. We have the lifetime warranty as well. @ 200k I was a little afraid to take it on the road. We went to Panama City Beach in October with 239k. Before the trip, I asked a reputable County Sheriff maintenance mechanic how many miles do they have on the County 3.6 Durango's. Some are barely over 300k, and still sound good he said. They have given some of the higher mileage units to a few small town police departments. They were still running. That 3.6 was designed for public service where a lot of idling goes on. Keep the synthetic oil polished off religiously, and under 35 between lights. You will be fine going way over 200k.

Glad to see yours is treating you well! Mine has the Hemi in it, is their whole fleet 3.6’s? I am wondering what the same guy would say about the Hemi’s he maintains, if any. The vehicle still feels great and runs great. I think I am more worried of a sensor failing, cam or crank position, something that would leave you dead instantly. Not so worried about the mechanical side. Last but not least, thank you for your service!

Back in 89 my friend I was going to school with had a notch back 5.0. He could burn the tired off of it and easily grab second gear. But it was a 15 second car but had a manual trans. LOL

Yes, the entire fleet is 3.6. Awhile back we had a discussion about their vehicles not being the Hemi. I felt they should. He went into a long tyrant about how the public dupes are complaining about fuel costs, tires and this and that. The Hemi needs much more maintaining blah blah....

As far as Stellantis is concerned, the " midsize Gen IV Durango" is already for sale as the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. If you are waiting for the "full size body on frame Gen IV Durango" it is also already on sale as the Jeep Wagoneer. Considering that the Dodge, Ram and Jeep brands are mostly sold out of the same or side by side showrooms, there is minimal cooperate concern of customer defection.
If I wanted to pay significantly more for a smaller vehicle, I would have gotten a Jeep in the first place.

Affordable towing is important to me. Durango is really the only vehicle in its price class with a decent towing capability on all trims. With Jeep as the only option in the family, then suddenly other manufactures are back in competition.

"Will the I6 (straight 6) be put in a Durango" Probaly Not!

SUV....... I say Yes!

Stellantis states, “The Hurricane twin-turbo I-6 is the primary internal combustion power plant of the future in North America for vehicles using the STLA Large [muscle car and 4WD SUV] and STLA Frame [Ram truck] platforms.”

What concerns me is the phrase "North America" Especially since 'they' shuttered the Belvedere, IL. assembly plant,
with rumors of a move to Mexico.

I really need to get my hands on a big block Hemi crate engine!
