I have been having the exact same starting issue for a year and a half with my 21. The dealership cannot seem to get it to do it in their presence so therefore they cannot diagnose it. Mine gives off a strange chemical like smell after not starting which is concerning. To say it's frustrating would be an understatement! Has anyone had any luck figuring out what the exact issue is?

I have a 2022 that we ordered and it is doing the same thing. It is in the shop now for the 5th time. Mine is not a interceptor. It is my wife's daily driver. At times ours will start, but the starter stays engaged even after the engine has started. So the engine is running and the starter is running too. Very frustrating and it gets very hot. This is our 3rd Durango in 10 years and the 1st one we have had any issues. I spoke with one gentleman while we were at a campground and heard what it was doing. He informed that he had one that done the same thing and the dealership could not figure it out. He stated his eventually caught on fire under the hood. That is not a chance I am willing to take with my wife and grandchildren in this vehicle. Now she doesn't want to use the vehicle because she is afraid it is going to catch on fire.

Replace the starter and see what happens after.

Have the extended cranking issue on my 20 DDRT. Fuel pressure test while running is 62psi. After shutoff and resting for 20 minutes fuel pressure with motor off had dropped to 20psi. Regulator or check valve not working properly allowing pressure to bleed back to the tank. Tried the procedure of pushing start button with foot off the brake and that has worked. Again that points to a fuel pump issue. With such a history of failures Dodge should do something. Fuel pump currently on back order for 30 days.

Just keep on complaining.....

Chiming in as well for any updates

21 Tow n Go. 60k had it for about 4 months and it had left me hanging 4 X's. Toyota dealer has replaced fuel pumps,TIPM previously and starter button this last trip. No codes pop and even more maddening is one case it would not start for several hours. Tow truck picks me up and drives 5 minutes to my house, roll it off and it starts right up.

Dealer could never replicate it and never get a code. Would be happy to figure out a work around but none of the aforementioned tricks work.

I have the exact same problem with my 2022 GT. I have spent $2700 trying to fix it with no solution. I also have the leaky racetrack lighting and sweaty headlights. They need to own up to this stuff. There are thousands of us with the exact same problems.

Replace the fuel pump people. Or at least have the fuel pressure tested to show it needs to be replaced.
I did. To the tune of $1800. It still does it. It's random and works when it works so it's not the pump. It's something to do with the prime because if you turn the ignition to start without your foot in the brake and wait a few secs, it's starts every time.

I'm in this boat, too. And I'm sad because I do really like the car.
Has anyone also noticed that their 2021 DD seems to run really high at start up? And sometimes doesn't come back down until I put the vehicle into reverse or drive.
Worse though is the strange long start, same as everyone else has described.
Do I replace starter and fuel pump?
I don't want to end up stranded. I already have failed transmission on the Interstate PTSD (a Jeep). And I don't want it catching fire! 😫

I also have a 21 GT that we bought about 4 months ago. The long cranks are very annoying and frustrating. Never any codes. Tried starting it with the key fob pressed to the button, doesn't work. Should I try replacing the fuel pump? Does that seem to be the solution for most people? We love the car besides this problem, but this problem is making us hate it. Considering getting rid of it if we can't figure out the issue. Is there anyway to test the fuel pressure?

Try pressing START for a few seconds without pressing the brake so the pump can build up pressure. Then press both and see if it starts right up. That would then indicate it's pump related. Pressing START with the fob works only when the fob battery is weak.

Will I have to press it twice without the brake pressed? it seems like the first press only puts it into accessory mode, the second press lights up the idiot lights on the dash - is that when the pump is activated?

@ Ford141:
Correct. Press it twice w out the brake pedal being pushed. How many miles on your '21 D? Not sure if the 3.6l uses the same pump, but there were a number of '21's with the 5.7L that had bad pumps very early on.

It has 64k on it currently. The Carfax history shows that it had been to the dealer twice in the year previous to us owning it to have the "electronics checked" That should have been a red flag had I known better. I suspect that's why it was traded in.

Maybe so.
Let us know if the button trick makes a difference for you?

Update: My wife has been doing the double button push for a week now, but it has still been doing the long crank. Kinda shoots down my theory of the fuel pump. We’re fed up with it. Purchased a clean 17 Navigator today and our local dealer has agreed to purchase our Durango from us with the known issue.

Can't blame you. I have 2021 gt been doing the same thing since new
DODGE SUCKS

I wanted to come on here and post about my recent issues with the long crank/start in my 33,000 mile 2021 Durango R/T. I experienced this issue almost everyday. I read through the forum for a few days and made the conclusion it was fuel line/fuel pump related. I took it to the dealer showed them a video of what was going on and they ended up being able to replicate the fuel pump and found it has fixed my issue. Apparently there is a TSB out from the manufacturer on this specific issue stating how to properly fix it. I was told the fuel pump is in a 2 year warranty and I might have to replace it again at some point. But so far everything is working as normal now.
