is there anything you DON'T like about your '14+ Durango?

Bought a new '15 SXT AWD about a month ago. I traded in my '14 RAM BigHorn hemi QC, which about killed me to do, but it was a 2wd, and absolutely useless in snow. (Yes it snows here in west TN, and snow removal is pitiful at best). I got a very good deal on the Durango that I couldn't pass up. I really like the way it handles, the V6 is no hemi, but it is peppy nontheless. However, there are a couple of things that I'm not fond of.....but I can live with.....for the time being.

1. Lack of storage space in the interior. My RAM had bins galore, plus two glove compartments. The Durango, one bin in the console.

2. It needs a backup camera. Rear vision isn't the greatest. Unfortunately, this one came with the 5.0 dash instead of the 8.4. The dealer said Chrysler didn't want them installing the factory backup unit, so aftermarket is my only choice. (If anyone has any suggestions here, I'd be greatful. Don't want one with the screen in the mirror.)

Actually that's about it. If these are the only complaints I ever have on it, I'll be a happy camper.

No reason you cant get factory Back up Camera for that radio its not easy to do but it can be done. If you want look into an aftermarket radio that has the Back up cam
Storage isnt Great under the rear hatch holds a lot of stuff

some minor annoyances:
- Climate Control always "un-syncs" between the driver and passenger sides
- Switching to Media always defaults to CD (Not Bluetooth which I always use)
- Engine always starts in Eco mode

1) Agreed, Climate Control un-syncs, should only unsync if passenger adjusts temperature.
2) Front end seems to make a knocking sound. Maybe normal but not sure i heard it in the first 5000 miles...

These are mostly minor annoyances and I know that most folks aren't using their Durango the same way I am, but here are some of my gripes after having my truck for almost 2 years.

1) I don't like that the RT doesn't come with driving modes: sport, street, track, etc. I would have paid more for this as an option since they were available as far back as 2011 models in the SRT cars. The Jeeps have adjustable suspension and driving modes, so why not in the Durango?

2) I don't like that the switchable key technology (red key vs black key) hasn't been used in more of the "sporty" models. RT's should have it as an option, certainly the Scat Packs and SRTs should have it--not just the Hellcats. I know this is pretty new technology for Dodge and they're trying to keep the Hellcats special, but still....I want it!

3) I REALLY don't like that I have to turn Eco mode off every time I crank my truck. The 15's have the feature standard, so why can't a software update provide it for the 14's? That's just stupid to me.

Jazzbo--didn't you see the Ron Burgundy commercials? Our gloveboxes can hold 2 turkey sandwiches, 6 ball peen hammers, and so many packs of gum that we're like a rolling gumball machine! I mean.....it goes on for INCHES and it's standard!! haha

I won't got into the numerous issues I've been having, but in terms of the everyday:

1. Eco mode button memory like everyone else.

2. I dont like the turn signals and wipers on a single stalk

3. I wish the seats were actually cooled and not just ventilated. Also wish they were a bit more comfortable. Too hard in my opinion and no adjustable leg/knee extension in the front of the seat

Oh yeah....I forgot that one. I would love some cushy seats like the SRT but without the SRT logo. I know....I'm picky!

In My opinion that complaint is actually due to the leather itself and its flexibility.
My seats are so much more comfortable with the Katzkins over the factory leather

Perhaps that's part of it, but I like the side bolsters in my Charger--those seats really grab me! The Durango feels like I'm sitting ON the seats, not IN them.

Some of the things you mentioned are some things I forgot, like the climate un-synching for instance. In mine, it doesn't start in ECO mode unless I turn it on. But one thing about this Durango that really ticked me off and I forgot to mention is the Bluetooth. Mine came with the UConnect 5.0. I would have bought one with the 8.4 if they'd had one, but the 3 AWD's they had at a marked-down price all had the 5.0. Anyway, my cell phone is a Samsung SIII Mini which hooked into the setup on my RAM right away (8.4AN). Apparently, the 5.0 doesn't support my phone at all (8.4 does), so if I want to use hands-free phone, I have to go out and buy a new one that's on their listing of supported phones for the 5.0. To me, that's total BS!!

1. Power folding mirrors w/power fold away. If Kia can make it available on a Sorrento then so should Dodge.

2. ECO memory like everyone else.

3. Ability to slide second row seats forward and back. We rarely use 3rd row so it would be nice to take that legroom and add it to the 2nd row.

2nd row sliding seats... It'd be nice but they side against the wheel wells so no real place to go unless they made them skinnier
Redeye has a good point. AFAIK, you're not really going to find a 3-row SUV where you can slide the 2nd row further back than the standard position (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Slide forward? Sure, our '04 Pilot does that. But all it does is give the 3rd row more leg room at the expense of the 2nd row passengers. I don't think you'll get your wish for a 2nd row that slides back into 3rd-row territory.

Our 2013 Acadia had adjustable second row captains chairs. It did allow for a lot more second row leg room for the kids which is one of the main features I miss since I'm 6' 4". My kids feel somewhat cramped when I'm driving. I also wish the Durango had a panoramic second sun roof like the Acadia did. Other than that, the Durango is perfect to me and blows our previous Acadia out of the water.

I have a GC and not a Durango.. but..

I really haven't found much difference with ECO on or off on the 5.7L.

but..

I have sport mode, and I hit that whenever I want to do spirited driving. It is easy to do, just tap the shifter back. FCA is alleged to be effin' around with the shifter in the '16 GC, and adding sport mode to the '16 Durango.. via a button on the dash in both cases.

So the good news is that sport mode may finally show up in the Durango. The bad news is that having to reach up to the dash to turn it on is a major step backwards on the GC side.. and really not optimal on the Durango side (it should be maybe a tap on the face of the knob)..

Sometimes I wonder if anybody at FCA actually DRIVEs any of these vehicles.. :(

'15 R/T here... They fixed the Eco mode memory by the way... Ours stays off or on depending on how you last left it.

We don't have any real complaints yet, but here's some little things...

1. The window lock out switch is cheap
2. No mist quick flip switch for the rear wiper, also rear doesn't rain sense.
3. No power fold on side mirrors (damn I must be spoiled).
4. Can't unlock all doors from the driver door handle as a secondary action when you have first grab action open drivers door only.
5. It needs a tint at top of windshield.

#17 ·
For item (4) if you go into the settings, and select the Passive option the door handle unlock function will unlock all doors. Just changed that one myself.

I have very few annoyances most are my own fault for not ponying up for a higher trim model not having the tow pkg, backup camera or 8.4 system.

Actual annoyances are that at least in the 5.0 system the screen always stays in the mode you hit... So say I adjust the temp. I have to back out of it back into the radio screen instead of it timing out after 10-15seconds

Again with the climate controls I wish more of the functions were redundant (the air directions top, bottom mixed etc are all that's missing but I use that and rear controls the most.

The eco mode had been said and should just be a software adjustment. I doubt we'll ever see.

Radio presets on startup. If I get out with the radio on, why is it off when I get back in?

Glove box barely fits the owners manual... It's almost funny how small it is.

2nd row sliding seats... It'd be nice but they side against the wheel wells so no real place to go unless they made them skinnier

The thing looking so good.... Getting compliments on my baby hauler all the time is getting old....

Some of the complaints above seem to be wishing they had gotten different options or models.

Not many complaints on my end. Have noticed the climate control not staying sync'ed, wondered if it was just me. I do feel that they should give all models more tuning options like the SRT's, especially Hemi models. Lane change signal should flash 4 or 5 times instead of just 3, causes me to want to change lanes quicker and it is very touchy to engage it.

Yep. I'm not going to make that mistake with my R/T. I'm getting everything but the sunroof (a potential regret?) and the DVD player (overpriced & antiquated).

I guess if you are asking me to bitch about something ... Uconnect 8.4 AN is pretty useless.
I'm still peeved we're not seeing Apple CarPlay (or Android Auto if that's your thing) for 2016. FCA raised their hand for CarPlay support 2 years ago and here we sit with nothing happening. Screw the factory Nav system (and its delayed and expensive updates). And I have zero interest in FCA's half-baked "apps." Like you said, my iPhone does everything I want, so let me put it on that 8-inch screen.

Faults .. not many from me so far but only have 3K miles still.

I guess if you are asking me to bitch about something ... Uconnect 8.4 AN is pretty useless. I guess all the manufacturers are struggling though in this area. The 3G hotspot is a total joke, as are ALL the apps and nearly useless NAV. This system is barely an improvement over the system in my 2008 Hybrid Tahoe, which was pretty much the atari 2600. Give me slider vent controls, a few push buttons to operate the cool stuff (like 3rd row folding head rests, headed/cooled seats, ect...) and a NICE MOUNT FOR MY DAM IPHONE WHICH DOES EVERYTHING BETTER THAN ANY FACTORY NAV SYSTEM IN EXISTENCE. Oh, and about $2K off the sticker price, since it was apparently wasted on Dodge trying to out do Apple. They came up about 99 yards short on that 1.

Otherwise, no complaints. Im even getting over the silly rotary shift knob now.

And the compliments I get from people in parking lots range from "bad ass" to "heist car" whatever that means :) It is kinda funny to cruise along at 80-85 and watch how people move over rapidly because this rig looks like an FBI cruiser. Ive had a few come up behind me and I always get that sinking "oh shit another speeding ticket" feeling. Nice to dish that out hahaha.

Most don't slide back any further they have the ability to slide forward for more 3rd row room. They added this function in my old sorento on the model yr two years after mine. They were able to slide but when pushed fully back they were in the same location mine always were.

It's more of a seat redesign thing. With the fold and tumble 2nd row design they'd have to mount the entire seat on a rail as well... This would either raise the seat height slightly (limits headroom) or limit the current tumble function. I'm sure it could be done but it won't be on this gen.

We also have to remember we are dealing with a rwd biased platform. Most cuv's are fwd biased meaning the running gear to the rear is minimal - smaller drive shafts, rear ends, axels etc. Which creates more floor space. Kind of a give and take the gm body on frames with solid rears deal with the similar packaging issues.

Annoyances for me:
- Bad Amplifier software
- No roof rack option for R/T (really? come on guys!!!!)
- No power fold mirrors
- Lack of storage spots and bins for driver/passenger
- Update: forgot to add an option to get rid of all the chrome bezels on the inside.

That's really about it for me with my 15' R/T (I don't have the Eco mode issue thankfully!)

Wish List
- No "SPORT" mode for R/T (un-link front and rear brakes, set to RWD from AWD, etc)
- No SRT option or R/T option package for Durgano with a 6.4L and upgraded brakes

I wish my 14 Durango had blind spot monitoring as a standard part of the Limited package. Wife's 2013 Ford Edge had it, and once you have it, you become dependent on it. I've learned to adjust, it's just a sweet feature especially when backing out of a driveway with a lot of pedestrians.

Minus my transmission fiasco, which has been running flawlessly since they replaced it, btw, the only real complaint I have is the way the exhaust sounds. The sound makes it nearly impossible to drive in a financially responsible manner. I can't help but to stomp on it, or roll on it, every time I get up to speed. I only have a cold air intake, I can only imagine how difficult this is for those of you with custom exhausts!

May have been said already, but the fact that the Uconnect feature that reads and sends text messages doesn't support the iPhone.

Ya know...the worlds top selling smartphone. ??

Don't get me started.

The phone camps and the car companies all think they have a proprietary position to guard and monetize.. so nobody is involved in defining and implementing a neutral interface that lets me use my friggin' phone in my friggin' car and take advantage of what each has to offer.

This is not an unsolvable technical problem, whether it is an unsolvable business problem I do not know.

It's in the options somewhere. I think "safety and convenience > easy exit" or something like that. Whatever the menus are called, there is definitely a way to turn it on and off.

Very minor complaints for my '14 R/T.

No outlet for charging cable to fish through for nice wire management from the USB hub in the center console (My OCD but my previous cars had that)
I wish the 2nd row captains slid as I have a car seat in each and its a major pain to tell someone to slide through the middle aisle to get to the 3rd row
I wish it had blind spot monitoring but again that just may be on me and the model I chose
I don't like that people say it looks like a minivan or a station wagon but people are dumb as I think its the baddest family hauler on the block :)

With all the hype about safety, how ass-backwards is it to have to take your hands off the wheel to activate the wipers, even for a single swipe? I think the last car I had to do that in was an 85 Pontiac. Also, is it unreasonable to have the seat heater controls as physical switches? My uconnect locked up on the highway recently with my seat heater on high, my butt was on fire until I reached someplace I could pull over to restart the car. Just because you can put everything on the screen doesn't mean you have to.
