Hey guys, just a quick update, I continued chasing this issue in the background, until I found a successful resolution to post here. I switched dealerships and the new one I went to suggested a fuel pressure test. I took it in this morning, and within the hour they found that the fuel pressure was leaking after engine shut off and basically dropped by 60% in under a minute. This was sufficient for them to make their diagnosis. The tech comments say this is indicative of a failing fuel regulator/fuel pump and have ordered the fuel pump replacement, to be covered under the powertrain warranty. I am just glad that they found the problem and came up with a solution, hopefully this will be the end of my 5 month ordeal.

However, on the not so bright side of things, the fuel pump is on back order and I was told it could take 2 to 6 weeks until they get it in. Nevertheless I will still consider this a win. Hope this helps somebody on this forum.
The time will fly and the next thing you know they will have it. Do you know the part number?

Follow up to ours..... Our dealer also diagnosed faulty fuel pump and replaced under warranty. We also had a start/stop error appearing on the display and that ended up being the master fuse previously mentioned in this forum. Everything appears normal at this time.
Ours fuel pump was backordered initially but we had everything back in our hands and running as intended in less than a week.

So the dealer had my car for 3 days and just returned it to me saying they ran every test they could and found nothing wrong. I can't say I am 100% convinced they did any tests at all, as there is no documentation listed on my paperwork beyond general concern - no problem found suggest to monitor.

Incredibly frustrating that this issue can't be resolved. As I am not certain they really did a fuel pressure test, any suggestions on how I proceed?

A good mechanic will add a temporary fuel pressure gauge taped to the windshield that allows you to monitor said pressure over normal driving habits.

If a dealer keeps your vehicle for days after the scheduled appointment, that means they did not look at it until the last day they had it and probably and hour or 2 before they called you.

When there is a diagnostic issue, dealers DO NOT get paid for it and it will sit until a tech has some spare time from making money.

Key thing, if your vehicle is running and you take it in for diagnostics, DO NOT let them keep it for days. No excuse and is a sign of a crap dealer.

Totally agree, I won't be returning to this dealer.

We have been experiencing this issue for a little bit now. Most of the time it will crank for about 20-30 seconds then start. Occasionally it will crank for half a second then shut off and when it does this it always starts right up as normal. We experience these starting issues frequently (every 3rd start +/-) but not any specific pattern.

We just got it back from our dealership, the first two times starting it worked fine however now we are experiencing the issue again. Here are the notes from the dealership service department:

"verified slow crank performed gr8 battery test. found both batteries failed test. removed and replaced main and aux batteries. verified vehicle starts under own power... cleared dtcs. found vehicle long cranks and eventually starts after multiple attempts. backprobed PDC blue connector fuel fuel pump out. found no power intermittent at times resulting in vechicle to not start when commanded. removed and replaced PDC. checked and verified power output now reading every time. started vehicle multiple times. verified repairs"

The part number for the PDC they replaced is: 68498421AA PDC

Our is a 2021 Dodge Durango

My Durango is at the dealership today. Will update this thread with what they say. Have a feeling it will be tough to reproduce, but thanks to a ring camera in my garage, I can prove it's happening. I have not recorded every single occurrence but have seven or so recorded and spliced together. I have a link to the video (too large to attach directly). Does this match up with what others are seeing?
mine does the exact same thing! Saw on here about swapping out the key fob. That worked for me! Hope you didn’t have to go to much trouble! Thanks Everyone!

We have 2020 with the same issue and we've done 5 fuel pumps in each vehicle since off warranty. I have two new 2021 Durango's do the same thing and like everyone else said we diagnosed it by putting on a fuel gauge and watching the pressure drop within 10 seconds. change the pump and everything is fine for 6 to 8 months then back to the same problem. Also i have cars at 5000 miles and at 120000 so the same thing.

I continue to have this problem, tried a diff key fob as suggested above with no luck. Having been to the dealer three Times I’ve about given up. Fuel pump sounds likely but they won’t do anything without a code under warranty.

My 2014 will do that if I let it sit for a few hours then try to start it back up again. My dealer also can't find any codes or replicate the issue (or that's what they kept telling me anyway). One of their techs mentioned it's probably the fuel pump letting fuel run back into the tank so the starts take longer. The way I get around it for now is to hit the start button to run without actually starting the car, let it sit for maybe 3-4 seconds then apply the brake and hit the button again to start and it'll fire right up.

That is a classic sign of a failing fuel pump and you should get it addressed before it leaves you stranded somewhere.

Hello Gents, We have some 2021 Durango police interceptors and all of them are having an issue where after a start up and cool down (we start it in the day, but then shut it off for a bit and turn it back on) they crank but won't start until we stop the cranking process then start it again. our 2020s don't do this, but all 2021s do... Any idea what is going on? We asked the dealer and was told this is a "security feature" and key has to be paired with lock/unlock which imo is bs and doesn't work anyways. any suggestions as to what it can be? here is a video of the issue
We have 8 new Police Interceptor Durangos. 5 of which were experiencing this issue so far. Normally after shutting off for a brief period. Our local dealer has installed fuel pumps in them and solved the problem. It took a while to duplicate at the dealership, but finally did.

I have a 2021 Durango doing the same thing. Dealer can’t duplicate it and no code. It’s a 1/2 hour drive to work then we sit in the car with it idling for 45 minutes then shut it off. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to run our routes and when we get back to the car and try to start it it just cranks for 10 seconds then it will finally start.
