Okay! I purchased this a week ago Saturday. The check engine light came on it was the canister purge selinoid. Changed that. Next day went out started her up and she died while in the house getting ready for work. So yep battery was dead. Read on here they are very depended on battery so purchased a new one along with altenator. ( Hubby's choice) Well now we seem to be having a idle problem. He cleaned the throttle bottle was very careful didn't want it running down in there. At first it was just when taking off sometimes it seemed it was not getting gas. Now idles and dies when sitting and once you put it in drive after backing out of the driveway. I am not getting any check engine light so don't have a code.
I have always wanted a Durango now I have one and would like to drive it right through the garage of the man I bought it from.
The pain in my rear and pocket book is A 2002 with the 4.7 magnum and has 144XXX.

The PCM has to relearn the idle settings after a bad battery adventure.

Also, make sure the IAC passages in the throttle body are clean.

Thanks Tom but what the heck is a PCM and how long does that take? I will let him know about the IAC since I have been seeing that on here alot. Told him about you guys but thought I would give a shout out.

PCM is the Powertrain Control Module.

Low battery foobars the idle air parameters, and it takes a while to relearn them.

You can clean the IAC with TB cleaner spray without taking the TB off.. if the IAC passages are dirty, that will make it harder for the PCM to relearn.

Also, if there was enough charge in the capacitors when you swapped the battery, it may need a full reset... is. drain.

Disconnect the battery, press the brake pedal and thurn the key to start it. Hold it thee for about 10sec. Reconnect the battery and give it about 100 mi.es to relearn idles. Tom is also spot on about the passages. It may also throw another code after the relearn, such as if it could be a throttle position sensor or mass airflow sensor. Those will generally cause crap idle.

Tom and Suli I would like to thank both of you for your help. My husband was reading his chilton's book and it pointed to a TPS so called the local Auto Zone about it. The gentleman there questioned why he thought that was the problem. So I explained and he said no you don't need that bring it in I think I know your problem. So we did. Turns out Ed has only owned Durango's since they have come out with them. Anyway to make a long story short he went above and beyond his job to help us out. It does have a vacuum leak. He could not pin point it exactly but there is a small one around the TPS so we ordered the gasket. Also this morning my husband started tearing into the IAC and he called to say it was filthy. So hopefully with the knowledge you have both passed on and Ed we can get this figured out. Have always wanted one since they first came out and so far my experience has been frustrating with it. I sure would eventually be able to get behind the wheel and enjoy driving it.
