You guys are saying intake muffler, but its a Helmholtz resonator. That said, I've been running my Volant intake a while now which is a really clean looking setup (and way more airflow), and I wouldn't have it any other way. Apparently there is no deadspot even with a Helmholtz resonator removed, which is odd but true.

You have also inadvertently made an "Airaid Jr." type intake, like is done with the GM 5.3L. Excellent!
Glad you are happy with Volant, but I think the purpose of this whole thread is to offer an option that is far less costly, equally efficient and fun because it was members ideas and it works. I don't think anything was made inadvertently, on the contrary, two things were achieved, using of a Chrysler engineering development for a higher horsepower engine which btw is more than enough for the 5.7 and the elimination of the ugly intake muffler, two birds with one stone. Thanks again Craigffb and Durangofreak for your work.

Lower box $58
Silicon Ends $43
Close Out Bracket $11
Clamps $8

Let me start off by saying the Durango is actually my wife's truck, so I don't drive it all that much. Anyway, we did take it to Nashville (about 50 miles on the highway) the day after I put it on. I could tell there was more engine noise at lower RMPs, but the wife didn't notice anything. At highway speed I didn't notice much, but when the truck accelerated with the cruse control on, once again I could here more engine noise.

At one point in the day I went to open the hatch and accidently cold started the truck. My wife kind of looked at me a said...."ok I hear it now, quit showing off".....LOL. It was defiantly louder then it was before.

I had to, well I don't know if I HAD to, romp on it to get around some cat on the Highway and it was WAY louder at WOT. You could without a doubt hear the exhaust and engine screaming and the truck felt like it had a little more pull on the top end.

Like I said in the very first post, I'm not claiming any horse power, but you can hear the difference in certain situations and the engine bay looks way better without the STUPID intake muffler/silencer sitting in there.

Your experience may differ...LOL
Took the beast out on the freeway today, went about 130 miles round trip, had about the same experience as you, improved top end, a little noisier at WOT but pleasant exhaust note, one thing, due to unusually heavy foot mpgs seriously declined...LOL. As per my other post around town its quite tame.

DURMANGO,

Did you get the Air Baffle - 53010919AD? The part circled in red

The part circled in yellow is Cover-ABS 68335573AC It just covers the ABS block which is right next to the air baffle.

Yes, my wife's girlfriend works as a receptionist at the local Dodge dealer, I gave her the part #'s and she got employee price, both parts for $58 with tax. I used it but I don't think it makes much difference, on second thought, manufacturers don't use parts that unless they deem then necessary, you know pinch a penny. Now that I have the part # I'll get the small cover too.

Cool. Agreed...I 'd like to think it helps keep more air by the opening in the bottom of the box, but for all I know it could be just for looks...LOL. The ABS cover was hard to get. I had to order it twice and it took around two months to get it. Might be faster now, I don't think there was any inventory when I ordered it. It is definitely just for looks.

Can you post a updated run-down of the parts required for the lower intake? I am confused between the part numbers you posted above and those set forth here: http://www.dodgedurango.net/forums/...ngo-performance-2011/57593-oe-air-box-pulls-more-air-post591657.html#post591657

Is this the run-down to do the lower intake and to block the upper air snorkel:

Air Cleaner Body
Part Number: 68142929AA

Cover-Close-Out
Part Number: 68137698AB

Baffle-Air
Part Number: 53010919AD

Cover-ABS
Part Number: 68335573AC

Yes use those ^^^^ part numbers. They are the newest parts. I don't want to confuse anyone buy listing the other/old part numbers or why they changed. Bottom line the part numbers you have listed will get you want you need to the SRT lower box conversation.

Dman, where did you source your tube?

I bought a AirAid, which apparently does not come with a Tube, just the airbox, and I want to "de-clutter" under the hood....

where could I find a tube, other than ordering a K&N tube for my AirAid?
Sorry 04ctd, it was a take off from a JGC hemi, a fellow I know gave it to me all he said it was a cheap Ebay CAI, he bought a fancy AFE Momentum for his Jeep.

PS: Just out of curiosity, I did a search on Ebay and the cheapest I found was a CAI for $70 complete with tube.

Just as an after thought, I bought the silicon ends with the middle hump for extra flexibility which is fine but I way overpaid, I later saw them on Ebay for half the money and free shipping, didn't do my homework:doh:

I just installed my FranK&Nintake. Will see tomorrow if I notice any differences. Rather than buying a new 4" hose clamp, I just used the factory one that connects to the original air box. Question, when you removed the OE bracket that was there to mount the intake muffler, did you reinsert the bolt?

On my 18 the bolt came out with the bracket and is attached to it.

I thought about just reusing the OE clap but it was just as easy to get a new one. On mine the bracket was held on by a nut that was on of those bolts with a nut in the middle of it. So I left it in and just put a rubber vacuum cap on it. You can leave it out. It's only the to hold the bracket anyway.

I've had my 2014 R/T since new, just hit 40,000 miles, with out one problem, I love this truck (admittedly I'm super envious of the new SRT) this will be the first official modification, thanks Craig and DURAMANGO for doing all the leg work for us.

Good Saturday everyone,
So, finally got off my butt and installed the K&N tube, I already had the SRT airbox installed. The only real pain was removing the IAT from the stock "muffler"
I firmly believe I can feel a difference and the end result was well worth fighting the IAT removal.
