Lauren, can Dad's Hemi spin the tires when you put the Auto Stick in 1st gear?
LOL
Wife's Avenger R/T has the Auto Stick and that makes for some real fun.

I'm sure it can but, seeing as the result incurs a penalty of death, I'm not sure I'd live to tell you about it.

As my main long distance travel vehicle, I prefer the auto. I have a 5sp manual in the Jeep that's my commute vehicle so I get plenty of quality stick time behind the wheel. When we take our family vacations, the D is our choice vehicle and sitting in traffic jams for an hours at times (just trying to leave the NE) is enough to keep me happy with an auto in the D.

I enjoyed driving a stick in a smaller sports car, not interested in one for the Durango. On the 40 mile, one-way, daily commute I used to have, I can vividly remember getting half way there, suddenly having to make a shift, and having the realization I couldn't remember the first shift of the day. To have driven 20 miles by then, obviously I had shifted. Driving a stick had just become commonplace and something I never thought of after a while.

Commuting in stop-and-go traffic where you get to 3rd and have to start over all of the time is a real pain. That was part of the reason I traded the Stealth for the D. Got real tired of rowing the gearshift for over an hour each way.

When it was time to replace my last car I said my next car WILL have 2 things!! A sun roof and a stick!! Then I found out Durangos didn't come with either one and I was too in love with it to not get one. So here I am with my next car and I have neither one but would LOVE to add both!! I too love the feeling of being in control that a stick gives you.

Mweed Wrote: The proverbial Allison with a PTO can do almost anything.

This is very true, Rolls Royce went from transmissions to one step way out there?Aircraft Engines, for Embraer regional jets. Made in Indianapolis, shipped to Brazil, to be put on aircraft that find their way back to various airlines in the U.S. and the world.

I know a far stretch from the PTO but goes on the limb of "do almost anything"

OH-OH!! Thread Hijack police on the way? gotta go.

Overkill I'm not implying that you head to INDY and ask Allison to make you a custom 5 speed transmission. LOL

Lets see how it works

I'm honestly surprised it took this long for someone to tell me to use the search. I'm just horrible with it for some reason.
Yeah, that's kinda the Internet Disease.

Folks here used to get all uppity about telling people to "use the Search, Luke" but it never made much difference.

So now we try to be a little more subtle :)

?tom

subtle is often more comical anyways. I was the #2 poster on another forum and #10 on another and we got sick of telling people to use the search so we'd just link them to what they were looking for cuz we could find it way faster then they could.

Here it's a bit more family? not to mention I have read every post in the entire forum so often I remember seeing the answer "somewhere"

Also, honestly our forum software doesn't have the most favorable search. It takes a lot of getting used to.

With that said, we tend to just answer the question. The ones we should be more search focused with are:

- what brakes
- what shocks
- what lift hardware
- what muffler

Those are common enough topics to be searchable by anyone.

Additionally, I don't think one should ask someone else to search. Everyone should at least try twice before that happens IMHO.

Don't forget "what tire?"

I've wanted to do it for a long time, but never had the opportunity. I may be able to soon though. I've searched for anyone who's done the swap and the closest I've found is a Dakota swap. It should be the same, but I'm left wondering why no one has done it with a Durango?? Once I learned to drive a stick, I've been spoiled and don't really like driving an automatic anymore.

So the question remains, why don't I see examples of people having done this? Wouldn't off-roading be easier? Wouldn't the mileage boost be nice? How about just being in control of the vehicle instead of having IT decide when you should shift up and down and what gear you should be in?

I'd think someone else would have wanted a stick by now, or have I just lost my mind?
I’m getting a Durango hellcat and I wanted to convert it to a stick shift but I can’t find anyone who can do it

Paddle shifters, my friend.
