What are the facts about servicing your transmission, specifically the back flushing method. I took my D to the stealership as it was due for transmission service. I specified that I wanted the pan off full service and not the back flush method, after reading horror stories on this forum. My transmission was working great and I thought I'd get it back that night, and then the stealer called with bad news. They said they found two pieces of a retainer clip, and that the magnet looked like a coconut. My D had previously had the back flush service done to the transmission (before reading this great forum.) Could this back flush have ruined my transmission? They're charging me an insane amount of money to fix my transmission that was working perfectly before I brought it in. Right after they called, I rushed over to see if they were just trying to screw me, but it seemed legit. They told me $600 (I thought this was the total labor charge, but turned out to be just the diagnostic charge) for the transmission repair before they called again and told me parts and labor will be a little over $2K. OUCH! Too late for anything else so I authorized the repair.
