I just upgraded from 15x8s to stock 16x8s from a 2002 on my 2000 4WD with 265/70R16s.

Can someone with a newer D please pass on the stock recommended tire pressures for this setup?

Thanks!

Tire pressure should be:

A) what's recommended for your tire and
B) what you're comfortable with

From previous posts, most around here run from 32lbs to 40lbs. Personally, 40lbs here.

Keep in mind your speedo will be off slightly with the different size of tire. A Supertuner programmer can fix it. There are also manual 'in your head' conversion charts around, even posted here in the last 6 months. Just search on it.

Enjoy your new 16's!

The recommended tires pressures are usually inside the front door but since your original has changed they might be different.
When towing run 35-36 up front and 41 rear when not towing 34 lbs all the way around should be just fine.

George, Steve is right. Also check on the tire itself. The specifics for aftermarket tires are usually right on the sidewall of the tire.

That's true

That's true Indy but the ratings listed on the tire are the ratings for the tires maximum load rating.

I looked on my door jamb, and it only specifies tire pressures for the standard P235 tires. I looked in the manual, and it said to "refer to the tire pressures supplement" included with the owner's manual packet. I just have the owner's manual only, so this does me no good.

If anyone has a '01+ with this pamphlet in their manual, could you please post what it recommends for tire pressures on the P265 tires?

If I had to guess, I'd say 30 PSI for normal use. That was what the older ones recommended with the 31x10.5R15 tires for normal driving. Since these tires are roughly the same size, it'd be a safe assumption as far as I'd see it.

If the original tires were 31x10.5R15, then there should be no difference on the speedo. The P265/70R16 is pretty close to the same overall diameter, so any differences would be so slight it'd probably be undetectable.

Despite D-C's recommendations for 30 psig (for the 31X10.5-15's and the 17" R/T tires), most folks run 35-36 psig all around. BTW - the recommendations for the 235/70 R15's are 35 psig all around. In all cases, in 2000 anyway, heavy duty (speed, towing, etc.) recommendations are 35Front and 41 Rear. I've got a 2K with 31X10.5-15's, but can't imagine, if the footprint is the same (or close) why pressure recommendations would be any different. Load is all based on truck weight and tire footprint.

Along those lines, recalling the F__D/Firestone fiasco, which was based, in part, on 26 psig recommendations (to give a "softer" ride), I shy away from the low pressure end.

If it's the maximum, it'll say that's the maximum. So stay below the "maximum". If you have a starting variable (30PSI) and a final variable (PSI Maximum) then it's easy to figure out the equation. Simply pick something to your liking in the middle. Avoid the problem FORD had with their Bridgestone/Firestone had and run your tires real soft and low on PSI for a smoother ride, your tires will be destroyed at a minimum. They had numerous SUV roll overs!

Hence the word "slight"ly in my post and your post.

My bad. Next time I'll read a little more thourough before I jump down your throat!

On both my Work Truck and Durango, I run the Max pressure hot on the rear and 5 psi less than hot on the front when towing. Otherwise, I run 10 psi less than the sidewall max, hot.

It works out to 3 or 4 psi less cold, but it's just a lot easier to check them hot, since I don't have a compressor.

I've never had any wear issues with the tires?
