Aloha!
Spent a fun-filled afternoon today stuck in stop-and-go traffic all the way home from downtown Honolulu? Thought I noticed a slight pull to the right, but it was hard to be sure at such low speeds.
Got home, then had to run another errand? Going down the street, I felt a definite tug to the right- Had to hold the steering wheel pointed to the 10-O'Clock position to go straight! It wasn't a low air pressure or bad alignment pull, either- This was powertrain related- When I took my foot off the brake, she didn't move (No, the E-brake wasn't on), and the rightward pull got stronger the more gas I gave. Dusting off some old brain cells from my Mainland days, it felt like I was in 4WD-Hi gear. (Wasn't!)
In hindsight, yeah, I should've pulled over at that point? But I kept going. And at about 25 or so MPH, I felt a "pop-twang" from somewhere underneath the truck, the steering wheel snapped back to the 12-O'Clock position, and all's well since then.
All I can think is, that long bout of stop-and-go traffic, which the D rarely sees, maybe overheated the transfer case, and made it temporarily think it was in 4WD. Is that plausible? If so, did I hurt anything? And if not, what could it have been?
Thanks, guys!
