I'd save the rattle can for other areas and pay $50 to have it pro painted.

The wear and tear a grille gets from road dings needs a pro paint that's hard, sealed via clear coat, etc to prevent just getting beat up. Unfortunately you won't get that from a spray can.

JMHO.

Agreed you won't get the finish you want from the can

+1 on this. However, to answer your question, you'll still need to sand it and re-prime it. that finish is too clossy/smooth to be able to take any paint and make it stick anything worthwhile. you'll also want to change your primer color depending on what color your base coat is. if you have a white D, then you don't want a black primer.

Depending on material being painted an adhesion promoter may be a good idea

WOW The price is right, I hope it turns out for you. When I first bought my Durango, I purchased two different aftermarket grilles off the net. The first one wouldn't fit or align properly. The second litterly fell apart in the box before I opened it. Neither made it on my vehicle. "OEM quality" as stated, wasn't even close.

If you going to paint it, or have it painted, FIRST test fit it to be sure it even fits properly or the way you want it.

Good Luck, James

PS I still have my factory painted Metallic Light Pewter grille. $50/delivered. Nearly new.
