I have an appointment with a dealership to order a 2019 Durango GT Plus AWD tomorrow. I went over last Saturday and we went through a few different trims and configurations and, with each, they quoted me $500 over FWP, minus any incentives that might be available when I go to pay for it.

What is FWP if you please? And also how did you determine the "Dealer Invoice" price?

 

FWP is the technical term for dealer invoice. It stands for Factory Wholesale Price. I saw the FWP/dealer invoice price when we configured the vehicle at the dealership.

 

It's on the lot finally!! I won't be able to pick it up until tomorrow.

When you order a factory car, your name is printed on the window sticker: “Built especially for John Doe”. It’s a minor little thing, but it’s a nice touch!

 

It has reached it's rail terminus, so I'm hoping I'll be able to pick it up this coming Saturday.

 

I got an update from my dealer this morning: the vehicle was on the train in Detroit yesterday. Now for the wait for the train to make the rounds...

 

I took it for the exaggeration that I’m sure it was. I’ve looked around online since and still haven’t found a regular stock vehicle that meets my requirements, so I’m more convinced than ever that I was right to do a custom order.

I chatted with FCA customer assistance yesterday and my Durango is in the Paint stage.

 

Got an update today. I have a VIN now and a D1 status, meaning it's in the queue. The estimated ship date is 11/24 and then I'll have to wait for the train to get to the local drop-off point and a subsequent truck to get it to the dealership.

 

Do all the Durangos come with black carpeting? I want to start getting accessories such as floor liners.

 

He did say they found one “6000 miles away” but the dealer wasn’t willing to part with it.

 

Was there something unique with your configuration that they couldn’t find nearby? My experience is that you can get a better deal buying off the lot than ordering. Not sure why that is the case, but that is the impression I’ve got after ordering 2 vehicles.

I never really addressed this question. Almost all of the GT and lower trim vehicles I’ve found omit the tow package, which is an absolute necessity for me. It’s much more common on the R/T and SRT.

 

I discovered that the dealer has an affiliate program with some employers and mine is one of them. I got 1% below dealer invoice. That seemed reasonable to me.
