What techniques did any of you who did a factory order use for your offer? Did you use the TrueCar/USAA/Edmunds price for the local dealer or area and if so did they honor the price even though it was a factory order rather than on lot?

I pitted several dealerships against each other. The dealerships that were outside of town 100+ miles away had better pricing and I used that to negotiate a better price with my local dealer. I think that sites like Truecar are good for reference, but if you take that paper into the dealership they are just going to tell you that the demand is "higher" in their area and the vehicle you are looking at is flying off the lots fast.

We didn't negotiate the price of the vehicle when we ordered as my husband belongs to the Chrysler affiliate program where he gets a % of FWP, not MSRP. We did the heavy negotiating on the trade-in instead, because used cars (and their bs protection programs they try to sell you when you buy a car) are where dealerships make their big profits.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your DD and what was the MSRP value?

Well, I ended up sending the USAA quote to three local dealerships and one of the three agreed to honor the USAA pricing on DD even though it was a factory order. The other two said that low USAA pricing was only for on the lot purchases so they could rid inventory. Luckily, the particular dealer also is closest to where I live and had the lowest price according to the USAA quote. Great price by the way. Did my factory order yesterday for Black Citadel V6 w/Tech,DVD and Tow. Now for the wait! Thanks for the advice!

My USAA price quote, which my dealer matched for a factory order was $39,710 (excluding tags, taxes, fees). This included $4k+ discount and then $2750 in rebates. The MSRP with options (Citadel, V6, RWD, DVD, Tow, Tech) was $46,975. So savings was $7295. I think the amount of the discounts varies from area and even dealer to dealer. The price quote for USAA even varies for different dealers within the same zip code. I am in Georgia. The TrueCar website seemed to indicate that the average real selling price has dropped significantly in the last month or so. I'm guessing since the MY15 is due out soon, maybe?

I didn't really negotiate at all. Just asked if they would honor the USAA price and they said they would (although 2 other dealerships refused). They'll probably get their $$ through service visits and I'm sure they'll try to push the warranties and other add-ons when it arrives.

You can see in my signature the specs of what I ordered, but here goes:

MSRP was $47,770
FWP with the affiliate discount was $44,871

The kicker is the dealership only wanted to give us $6,000 on our '06 Charger R/T trade-in (it wasn't in perfect shape: had almost 120K miles, a dent near the rear driver's wheel, the driver's seat leather was cracking, the tires needed to be replaced, etc). But we told them we wouldn't accept the Durango if they didn't give us $8,000. They gave in and then slapped a $12K price tag on the Charger when they put it out on the lot. Between the trade-in, available incentives from Chrysler, and the $500 cash offer coupon from Dodge, there was about $12,900 knocked off the MSRP before all the purchasing fees were added on.
