Well, I hope you do not feel set-upon here because these Forums are very valuable. I know all of us appreciate all input that is helpful. The problem I have with this claim is your opening statement that the vehicle was a Citadel "fully loaded... with the exception of the HEMI". Right off the bat, these figures fall apart for those of us who hunger after such a configuration. These numbers have been listed elsewhere, but they bear repeating for this conversation. Again, please do not let it erode into an argument. The intention here is to be accurate. Perceptions can vary widely -- but not manufacturer pricing.

Base MSRP of Citadel All-Wheel Drive (Invoice): $43,395 ($41,304)
Destination Fee: $995 ($995)
HEMI: $2,795 ($2,488)
2nd Row Fold-and-Tumble Captain Chairs: $895 ($797)
2nd Row Console with Storage: $300 ($267)
Engine Block Heater: $95 ($85)
MOPAR Black/Chrome Appearance Group: $795 ($708)
MOPAR Chrome Appearance Group: $895 ($797)
Rear DVD Center: $1,995 ($1,778)
CD Player: $450 ($401)
Skid Plate Group: $295 ($263)
Technology Group: $1,995 ($1,776)
Trailer Tow Group IV: $995 ($886)
TOTAL: $55,895 ($52,545)

As you can see, you either forgot about several Options when you said "fully loaded", or, perhaps, were not aware what that meant.
If we take off the HEMI, Captain Chairs, Storage Console, Engine Block Heater, Both Appearance Groups, CD Player, Skid Plate Group, we are still at:
TOTAL: $49,375 ($46,739) -- this is YOUR configuration, inclusive of the Technology Group, DVD System, and Tow Package

Based on your Receipts, you paid them:
$43,373.29 Base Price
$6,000 Cash
-$2,000 Rebate
TOTAL: $47,373.29 before Fees

After applying Rebates, etc. do you see the TOTAL PRICE PAID FOR VEHICLE line?
This is a line required by Law to add up all the previous lines in a final clear way.
It says: $48,000 -- you do not get to deduct the $6,000 or $2,000 a second time. Those are included.
You can use this to calculate backwards, if you wish.
Deduct from that the Taxes, and other Fees, and you get back to $43,373.29, PLUS your $6,000 = $49,373.29, minus the $2,000 Rebate = $47,373.29.

No matter which way you look at it, you paid: $47,373.29.
More to the point of my original reaction -- FOR THIS SPECIFIC CONFIGURATION.
Not a fully-loaded Citadel.
And that is equal to about 4.13% Below MSRP.
And equates to only the $2,000 Discount that people in your region are getting.
Which is nothing to be upset about.

I'm just not sure where you see a "discount" of over $4,500 being applied.

But, please believe me, the point we are making is NOT intended to alienate you from participation here. It is intended to not make other buyers feel so disappointed when they go into a dealership and cannot understand why they cannot get the dealer to sell at 20% below MSRP (as some are claiming). 11% to 12% is about the best you'll do.
My apologies on the "Fully Loaded" bit, i did forget a few options. Again, I am not trying to start an argument over this matter but you can add things up how you want. Proof was asked for and there it is.

LINE 15 - TOTAL CASH PRICE OF VEHICLE ( lines 3+4+8+9+10+11+12+13+14) =$48000 Sale price plus taxes and fees
LINE 16 - UNPAID CASH PRICE OF VEHICLE DUE ON DELIVERY (LINE 15-LINE7) =$40000 This is where the down payment and rebate where taken off

"And that is equal to about 4.13% Below MSRP.

MSRP was $49375 BEFORE taxes and fees. Had i paid MSRP it would have been closer to 55k OTD.

My calculations were WRONG. And I was just in the process of editing my earlier posting.
SORRY!!!

YOU ARE CORRECT.
Here's where I made my mistakes.

Ouch! That makes me cringe! I picked up my Citadel last week and haggled almost 8k off MSRP. Fully loaded (including rear seat entertainment) with the exception of the Hemi. I'm still kicking myself in the butt for not trying to get more off, but compared to some of you guys here i guess i made out pretty well. I paid 45K including tax and all. (Washington State 9.5%) Here's a breakdown...

MSRP 49,375

Sale Price with options - $42373.29 -- I do not know where you got this, but it possibly includes your "missing" $1,000 you mention later
Title and registration -$269.50
Rebates - $2000
Sales tax - $4207.21
Document Service fee - $150
Total Cash Price of vehicle -$49000 -- off by $1,000 based on your Receipt
Price minus Rebates $45000 -- off by $1,000 based on your receipt

Actually, branhart1123 DID do quite well -- he got a whopping 16.21% Discount.
But not off a fully-loaded Citadel.
My sincere apologies to everyone.

The stated Cash Sales Price is what matters on the Receipt -- which is $43,373.29. After your $2,000 Rebate, you actually paid $41,373.29.
That's a whopping $8,001.71 from Sticker!
Good negotiating job! -- and these are all my mistakes. My confusion was the Down Payment that was mentioned later in the explanation, magnified by my rush to judgement. I hate it when I do things like that. It's always embarrassing.:oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops: I think it's just so hard to believe such deals which are out of the norm. 12% to 14% is the best I've ever heard, up to this point.

A few final inputs: The $1,000 that you "lost track of" was probably included in the $2,000 Rebate. If they were not already offering a full $2,000 Incentive as some regions are, then they added Dealer Cash to the typical $1,000 Incentive. In my case, my dealer added $1,250. Also, I never could calculate the Taxes quite exactly -- you stated 9.5%. They are about $86 off, unless they had to include $1,000 of their Cash Incentive in that calculation.

I do have one other question:
What kind of Financing Rate did you get? I found .99% through PenFed for 48 Months.

Thank you. I financed through navy federal at 1.49% USAA was offering .49% at the time buy I had to use their car buying service to get that rate. I had a pre approval check in had which I believe helped me in negotiating. I didn't tell them how much I was approved for and I did not fall for their "what kind of monthly payment are you looking for" crap.

Well, you did all the right things! I have so many friends and associates that laugh at me when I go through the buying process. I work as a Purchaser so I read these articles all the time on pitfalls. Two people declared "Hell, all I do is tell them I only want to pay so much per month and they always come around to my way of thinking." Then I find out they financed for 60 months or even 72 months to get there. I just say "Yeah... you held tough!! I'm not that strong, I guess." :p

I saw the USAA offer but am not Military. USAA has a stellar reputation.

The other big thing is Leasing. People see the numbers on TV and think they really CAN lease that car for "Only $359 a month!" They forget the $3,800 Due at Signing. Or the fact that it's usually the bottom tier for that model. And they never understand why you must negotiate as if you were buying it. In Maryland you also have to pay Sales Tax on the full Price -- not just the value of the Lease. That's a big rip-off by the State.

I don't know about their financing reputation, but their insurance is piss poor.

Really? Wow. That's the first time I've heard that. Every report or study I read rates them the best. Lowest rates, etc.
Maybe they're ok towards their own members, but to everyone else they're terrible. I got hit by one of their clients that ran a red light (she was obviously declared at fault) in May. They kept trying to put off fixing my Durango for a month, then said they wanted to total it for a new bumper and fender. I ended up having to file through my insurance and let them sue USAA (which they did successfully) and I'm still fighting with them to pay my medical bills. As soon as I mentioned to my doctor that it was USAA that was responsible for the medical bills he recommended that I get an attorney because he sees people having a hard time with them frequently.

My parents got rear ended by another one of their clients at a red light a couple years ago and didn't have any better of an experience with them. My brother had a policy with them while he was in the air force and dropped them because he said they screw people over all the time (this was well before myself of my parents had to deal with them).

Indy is in the insurance business, and I'm pretty sure it was him that said USAA is pretty well useless too.

My goodness! All I've ever read about them are Ratings concerning their fees. I, myself, have 21st Century and they've been great. My homeowners is with Travelers -- and they've been stellar with a huge $100,000 claim when a tree went through my roof last year. I cannot complain.

Glad we got that sorted out
WOW over 9% tax...
I guess here in North Jersey they get it back in our ridiculous property taxes

Yeah. That was all my mistakes. I felt really dumb, afterwards.

I think if people wait until the dead of Winter with no business in the Dealerships they might match branhart1123's success in negotiating. Around here that would be mid-February. Another thought -- just make an outright low-ball offer. I tried this and there wasn't a single dealer out of 15 or so that would budge. In fact, all the others came in at least $1,000 higher than what I eventually paid.

I finally saw all the Exterior Colors today. I must take back some of what I've said, now that I've seen them.
Sandstone is actually not a bad color -- more champagne than beige. The Citadel adds the right amount of bling to that color.
The Deep Cherry Red sparkles in the sun, but turns burgundy in the shade. One minute I like it. The next -- not so much.
The True Blue is not terribly bad.
Crystal Granite is very nice with a lot of metal-flake -- more the granular kind, not big flakes.
Maximum Steel is definitely not Black when it's in the sun.

Every single car (Durango or otherwise) on this dealer's lot had Black Interiors. Except for one Maximum Steel Durango Citadel with the Tan. It wasn't horrible, but I was stunned they had ZERO Light Frost Beige.

Pricing today was not good. I may wait until the Customer Cash incentives come out in December.
Eh? Yes it's a subjective thing but, the tan citadel interior blows away the other choices. The headliner and floor areas being black like that, with the beautiful hue of the tan that contrasts with it...awesome. It's how Ferrari does it. The light frost has the me-too gray headliner that's is so ho-hum in the mainstream auto world IMHO.

I couldn't agree more...Love the look of my GCM with tan interior combo. Although 'Ferrari' should never pop up on a Durango Forum ;)

I feel your pain UNCLE. When we started looking, I wanted a White R/T AWD with trailer tow package and Navigation. I was flexible to a certain point. However, I did not want black or red, and I did not want the rear DVD entertainment system.

So when we started shopping for the Durango, we could not find what we were looking for. In a city of 4.5 million people and 10+ Dodge dealers in the Atlanta metro area, not one dealer had anything close to what we wanted. I would say 50% of the Durango's we saw were ordered with the rear DVD entertainment system. In this day and age, why would you spend nearly $2000 for that option when most kids have their smart phones, iPads, and tablets. Just a big waste of money in my opinion.

Long story short -Our MEGA dealer in Atlanta finally found a Durango we liked at a small Dodge dealership in Cleveland Tennessee, about 170 miles away. We ended up with a Limited AWD in Billet Silver (we actually ended up liking that color better than the white) with the HEMI V-8, Premium package, the Safety/Security & Convenience Package and trailer/tow package. With a sticker of $46,770 I ended up paying $41,110......$43,987 out the door.

Don't lose the faith. Definitely worth the time to find what you want. GOOD LUCK!!!

Been awhile since I popped in here. Rickster678 -- I did buy the Citadel in the Sandstone, so I haven't lost the faith. But I had the good sense to buy the Light Frost interior instead of the Tan -- which doesn't even REMOTELY look like a Ferrari tan. Nor even a '70s series British tan. If the tan used in the TR6 or Spitfire of those days was available in this Durango -- I would've been all over it!! As it sits, I made the best choice for me. The tan in the Citadel reminds me of manila folders -- not leather of any kind. It looks far better in photographs than in person. But to each his own. If I thought everybody should think like me, I'd be Rush Limbaugh!

The idea of waiting until the dead of Winter did not work out. I took ownership in December, but it did not help reduce any pricing. And right now they're still only offering $1,000 off as an incentive. Sounds like you got a good deal on your R/T. I have no idea why so many of your local dealers would insist on including the DVD Entertainment System unless they make a big profit on it. Odds are, Dodge offered some big discount to the dealers during that time.
