If I accelerate to pass, especially up a hill, the D just doesn't have the same pulling power that it used to. It also gets incredibly noisy, almost defeating in the cab, with very high revs.

I replaced the EGR on my 04 D' HEMI LTD 4x4 about a year ago, and it's just felt a little out of puff ever since. Don't push it hard much so I notice the issue, then forget about it. The previous off-brand EGR was causing stalling issues, and I replaced it with something from RockAuto. It worked great for a while but I got a few codes and decided it was safer to use MOPAR parts. Since then it's just seemed a little out of breath when accelerating, with very high revs, and is very noisy. Not too long after I installed the MOPAR EGR I went past a dealership and asked if it needed a flash or an update. They hooked it up to their machine, and said it didn't.

Has anyone had an issue like this?

I wonder if you have a blockage either in the cats or one of the mechanical exhaust flaps aren't fully opening (not sure your D has it but my JGC did)? My 99 WJ did not have flaps or EGR but one of the catalysts did crack and shift which partially blocked the exhaust. Anytime I would accelerate hard it would get noisy like more pronounced hiss from the exhaust.

How many miles on your '04? Has the CE light been on? What you describe could be many things. Trans slipping, failing fuel pump on the way out, etc.

120 000 or so miles. CE light? No error or warning lights at all. Pretty certain it isn't the trans slipping as I've had that on older vehicles.

How would I check that?

Best way is to remove catalytic converters and visually inspect. Might be possible to log upstream and downstream O2s to see there are any appreciable differences between the downstream sensors.

For the passive exhaust flaps (if equipped, I am not familiar with earlier year durangos) you would have to see how easily they can be rotated.

There aren't any flaps on the Gen 2's.
