I have purchased a single din Jensen CAR910W CarPlay radio for my 2003 SLT. The factory radio appears to have been designed to make sure thieves can't reuse it, as it's sure an oddball size. Fortunately, I found this radio in my budget range that I can fit into the dash, without cutting it up, and the transmission shift lever won't hit the screen.
I was able to find one video about pulling the lower dash assembly out. The ebay seller helped me by sending me a link for a screen template and a picture that showed 3" screen projection from the face plate surface. I think I am OK.
Once the install kit and backup camera arrives, I can proceed. I bought mine - refurbished with a 2 yr warranty in a factory box, labeled, 90 day return and 2 yr Allstate warranty $229 on ebay.
Has anyone installed an aftermarket radio in a 1st gen Durango?

The best part is- I have free SiriusXM sat radio!
I reused my receiver module, that was last used in 2000, and removed before the account expired. Its a crap shoot, whether it will get a random kill signal tomorrow, next month or maybe never.

Did you retain your SWC? Trying to install a double DIN Boss and keep the SWC, but the first interface module that I tried didn't work. I suspect that it is because the interface is meant for Canbus, which is more common, but the 2003 Ram I am working on is PCI controlled.

Sadly, my radio failed in only 13 days, the sound went totally dead. I was within my eBay 30 return window so I sent it back. I have ordered a JVC KD-T920BTS single din to replace it with -

I’m not sorry it’s gone, as the screen was lower than I liked and in the back of my mind I thought it could be a distracting safety issue-
I will be glad to get a CD player back, and Alexa may be a useful feature to have.

I went with the Boss BVCP9800W. Its disappointing that it does not have a disc drive, but I bought this because it has wireless carplay and android auto. We plan to use the rig to go camping, so I wanted navigation. I have been spoiled with SWC, so I would like to keep that, but it seems that the 2003 model uses analog signal.

I now have a Boss BCPA8 floating screen radio-
I scored a new open box unit on eBay for $119.
very easy to install- the screen mounting is a better design than the Jensen 9” radio- a plus for the smaller 8” screen is has plenty of cleanance for the column gear shift lever. Backup camera worked the first time for me- a new install that I didn’t get around to doing on the Jensen radio - this is a 2021 model with wired usb CarPlay- I used a 7/8” hole saw to make a hole at the bottom of the dash to drop both cables down .
I discovered I was ruined with the CarPlay and couldn’t go back to a conventional radio. Plus a Durango really needs a backup camera for safety .
