My Optima yellow top is showing signs of failing after four years. It probably doesn't help that the last 25 days in a row have been over 100F (Saturday being 120F.) I've started leaving it on a float charger? but the CCA for start just don't seem to be there - and at times just barely starts the D. I'm planning on taking it over to the local Autozone for testing.

I've had another (less demanding) vehicle last 6 years plus on an Optima (sold the car - the battery was still running strong.)

So how long has everyone else lasted on an Optima in their D's?

My red top just died a couple weeks ago. I believe it was close to 6 years old.

Just bought a new Yellow top last night. Been running my Red top for 4 yrs now in the Ram, but it was in my D about another 6 months before that. It's still cranking, but seems to be slightly weaker though. Also seen a slight dip on the battery gauge with the hot weather. New amp on the way so why not just change.

Yellow top- Angela's Furious drained one in less than 18 months while still in the Phoenix heat. The second Optima replaced proir to moving to Minnesota is around 24-26 months old and seems to be okay for now. But, with this weekend's heatwave, it may show signs of crapping out again. It showed signs during the last heat spell over Memorial weekend?

I've had my red top in my 98 for about 6 years now and it's still running like the day I bought it. No heatwave up here north of the 49th though.

I had a Red Top for a couple of years but it didn't make it a year in storage so I only got about 3 years from it. I'm back to the regular old Energizers/Die Hards.

Anthony - yes, you're probably the only one with the original battery. Yours was made on a Wednesday, the first day of spring, after the Union got a new contract, so the workers were in a good mood!

I've been to 4 local car shows with the D in the last week and at each one I've received many comments about the Optima Bluetop. At last night's Street and Custom show, Optima Yellows were everywhere with Optima Reds sprinkled in. I was the only Blue.
