There's a nice B&B there I've considered (Carlisle House.) I came across it each of the last few years looking up stuff there.

My stay at the Comfort Inn and Suites (2008, 2009 & 2010s stay location) was $99 nightly last year IIRC.

I was told we could also look into staying on the military base at their family visitors housing for something like $50 nightly (it's secure, cool and very close to the action.) Someone with a military background would need to do the ground work for us.

The Hotel Carlisle looks nice too.

Just FYI, don't wait too long before deciding on a hotel as places are selling out quickly already and it's only March? ugh! I just lucked out again with the Residence Inn.

Last year when we had to move because of the mold issues in the apartment we where renting, the family and I stayed a few months in a motel called the Travel Inn. I got to know the owner pretty well and, if you'd like, I could contact him to see if he can give us an insane group rate? It's a nice little motel with free internet and mini fridges/microwaves all in the rooms. They also have a pool and on-site laundry room if needed. It's located in New Cumberland PA so it be a 15-20 min hop on the PA Turnpike to get to Carlisle. There's also quite a few things really close by as far as places to eat or things to do. Let me know if you're interested? :)

The suites is nice because 3 can share the room nicely, full couch and 2 beds.
Steve, I have a connection at the Marriott where I stayed last year.
Lets get this rolling.

The Hampton Inn in Mechanicsburg ("Harrisburg West") is showing:
  • 2 queen: $101 prepaid $113 AAA
    1 king or 1 queen suite with sofabed: $113 prepaid $127 AAA
If nothing else comes up, that's what I'll default to. It'd be nice to have a pool for the nephews; and use some Hilton points. :) I don't know if they'll do a group rate though, never tried that?

The Travel Inn old_school noted looks at least clean and comfortable, and will probably be VERY inexpensive. It's also more a highway ride to the fairground as opposed to the back roads from the Mechanicsburg hotels.

I'd be willing to go out on a limb an say it's likely we'd get a rate around $40 a night, give or take a few bucks. The rooms there are very clean when I stayed there 5 months while we looked for a new apartment last year. The housekeepers are really nice and do a great job and there's a decent pool there to come back to if its hot out.

The motel sits right off the Harrisburg West exit on the PA Turnpike so it'd be a straight shot up to Carlisle. There's plenty of places nearby to eat and right across the street is the "Harrisburg Comedy Zone" if you're up for laughs.

I'll have to see what's going on the weekend of Carlisle and, even though I'm only 30 mins away from Carlisle, I may get a room with the group so I have more time with everyone while you're here. :D

Old school, as long as it's clean, it can't hurt to get a rate for us.
At close to a $40, it'd be great!
Let me know either here or by PM.

I'll be up that way in the AM, so I'll stop by and see about a group rate for us and report back. :)

Okay, here's what the Travel Inn can do for us.

They can give us rooms with a nice king size bed for $50 a night, if you need to go with double beds, add $10. If we all choose that's what we wanna do, I need to get a room and people count started so they can reserve us the space. They offer the following:
  • * Microwave and mini fridge in every room
    * Wired and wireless internet in every room (FREE)
    * DirecTV (at least when I was there 3 months ago)
    * All ground level rooms
    * Pool
    * Laundry room
    * Game room
    * Fitness room
    * Vending machines in lobby
    * Walking distance of McDonalds, Hess Express, Toms, Bob Evens, the Comedy Zone and maybe more I can't remember.
So, what do y'all think?

Great prices! Get back to you ASAP.

Travel Inn is about 21 miles away and, if I go, that'll be too far away for me so I'll stay closer.

Great price though!

21 miles is far.
How far was the place last time?

I was bored and curious today, so I drove from the motel's driveway to the front gate at Carlisle and got 20.2 miles with 17 mins driving time up the PA Turnpike.

Okay, I got a call from the young lady at the Travel Inn and she was just wondering what we where planning to do? She tells me with the 4th of July the Wednesday before and Hershey Park planning a huge shebang for that week/weekend, rooms are starting to get booked. I was wondering what are our final thoughts on this are??

Get back to you ASAP

I haven't decided yet, I may stay closer in at Mechanicsburg and get points.

Looks like Lauren's going to be on a contract in Harrisburg over the summer, living out of a suitcase, so she'll probably join us for dinner Thursday night. :)
