Might just be the SRT392 version and not a Hellcat version
especially since they seem to have trouble building enough Hellcat engines as it is and if Jeep is getting the Hellcat engine then that would free up some 392's for a D version.

I think that makes more sense....but hope it really is a Hellcat D!

Someone put a bumper kit on a durango and they think it's a hellcat??? Development mules usually arent left out covered by a sheet nor would they have just a replacement bumper cover.

Looks like a truck sitting outside a shop waiting to get a body kit installed... And someone didn't secure the tarp...

I'd love to see one but doubt this is it

i would also guess that's either a 392 or some random company making up a new bumper fascia.

Funny how from just that picture they jump to a conclusion about what's under the hood. That being said, I'm buying that bumper/grill the day it's released.

I don't see FCA stuffing 700 horsies into a Durango. It just doesn't make financial sense and one thing they need to work on is being financially viable. FCA is struggling in the U.S. right now, so making more limited editions is crazy IMO. The Jeep makes SOME sense because it'll go head to head and beat the X5M. Even then, it's not a great financial decision & IMO, it's more of a marketing decision.

My guess is a private project, but couldn't resist the notion. The grill does have some similarity to the Hellcat mule for the GC, but taped on and loosely tarped doesn't say engineering development to me. I hear the roar of all the Hemi guys now (with just a tinge of jealousy), but I'm plenty satisfied with the V6 I have. Almost 2x the HP of my 98 Dakota's 3.9 and all the power I need. I'm with Chewy that it makes no sense whatsoever financially, and Fstdango3 that it rings all the bells for doubt. Still......

I find it a bit hard to think FCA would allow a private project for development on their property and I don't see a Citadel owner putting on that front bumper or switching out the rims to black R/T rims with no center caps.
I'd say there is good probability it is a FCA project...but is it a one off for a show? Or the rumored SRT model?

Limited editions are great, I don't understand why they don't do more. As long as the limited edition is "limited" to things like chrome, blacktop, custom graphics, product associations, and/or color type aspects. It's cheap to paint a car blue/green/purple/etc then charge a premium. And even if they don't get any sales for the higher priced custom aspects automakers are still able to do marketing around them.

If the limited edition necessitates a major retooling on the line it's not worth it.

That could be what they are looking at for the "392"/"SRT"/"6.4L"/whatever (I won't think it will be an SRT, based on the way branding was going last I heard.. but these things turn on a dime..)

Or it could be a new R/T.. or it could be SEMAesque one-off..

My guess is that it if REALLY had a 6.2L Hellcat mill under the hood, it would not have any detectable exterior cues (other than probably exhaust, and possibly suspension height) .. but that's just my guess from having watched these things over the years..

which conjured up an interesting image.. can you imagine a nice, chrome-y, sedate looking Citadel cruising Woodward with a 6.2L under the hood? ;)

The line is capacity constrained right now.. so not a lot of incentive to offer specials..

but..

There is a persistent rumor that another plant in the US is going to get tooled up for the WK2/WD platform.. possibly in preparation for the Grand Wagoneer in the next generation.. a variant of the flexible line stuff that FCA has been pusing for a long time (and is in JNAP today) could let one or both plants be flexible on mix and maybe make room for some more variants..

IIRC the current (new) paint line at JNAP is actually fairly flexible..

That said, IIRC most of the volume is still in vehicles bought off the lot. Automakers seem to not spend a lot of thought on using specials to generate buzz, which then leads to people buying far non non-specials..

Limited editions also create some cost in parts logistics, which the manufacturer has to factor in..

sorry, just putting out random thoughts.. been a long week..
