I've been trying to figure this out but have no idea where to even look so here it goes.lol when I turn on my air, whether its hot air or cold air it only puts air out through the vents on the front side of the dash. when I push the button for the air to go on the feet or the defroster for the windshield it does nothing but make a weird clicking noise and that it. has anyone else had this same problem? how do I fix this?

Might be your blend door. There's an actuator in the dash that controls which vent the air is coming out of. It has a plastic gear in it and if one or more of the teeth break off that gear you'll get a clicking noise like that. I found videos on youtube for other dodge products but not Durango specifically.

I have same problem. Just got a quote today for actuator and "box" change...$1300! Mechanic says it's a full dash removal. I would be content if I could somehow manually get it actuated to def/floor but he said that won't work :(

The blend door is used to bypass air around the heat exchanger to blend hot air and cold air to give you slightly warm air i.e. when the temp control knob is in the middle. The mode door routes air to the different areas i.e. floor only, floor and dash vents, or defrost vents. The mode door is busted (common problem for both front and rear HVAC, more so of the blend door for the rear HVAC). Unfortunately, you cannot just replace the doors as you have to purchase a complete housing which includes all doors and actuators. And yes, it is a full dash removal. Went through this with the rear HVAC. The rear is a lot easier to access and replace.

I was informed yesterday of a possible temporary hack that someone did on an older Dodge truck. That is to access the "mode door" box, cut a hole in it, secure the door positioning to defrost/floor (maybe with some glue) and then seal the hole back up. This would insure window defrosting and my old ladies feet not freezing which is all I care about. Given your experience, would this work? Can I gain enough access to do this by removing the center radio/climate control panel? Thanks!

weyland426, try searching for a youtube video about securing it in place. I vaguely remember seeing one similar to your idea where the person only removed a few components to get access and then somehow zip-tied the door in a fixed location. I cant recall what model year it was on. After dealing with the rear hvac, it got me thinking of how to pull out the front HVAC and I watched a youtube video of someone that took two days to pull all the dash components out to get to the HVAC housing. It didn't look too complicated, just very involved. If I had to replace the front HVAC, I would feel confident in pulling the dash in two days. I would have to decide if the time is worth the savings and could I afford for it to be done over a week period (two days i.e. one weekend to disassemble and two days i.e. the following weekend to install and reassemble dash.

Any Luck?
