Tow capacity was one of the main reasons I bought my 2016 R/T. I finally got to test it out towing my Z06 to the track. It was about 250 miles round trip, mostly highway with no significant hills. Since it was my first time towing with this setup, I drove conservatively and I kept the speed between 60 and 70 mph.

The trailer is all aluminum with an 18' deck (22' overall) and weighs about 1400 lbs. My Z06 weighs about 3200 lbs with a full tank of gas. So the overall weight was about 4600 lbs. I had a couple of hundred pounds of tires, tools and assorted spare parts in the Durango.

I'm using a standard hitch (2" drop with a 2-5/16" ball) without weight distribution and no sway control. It was very windy with 35 mph cross wind gusts. The Durango and trailer barely even felt the wind.

I was very impressed with the towing ability of the Durango. The Hemi hardly even noticed the trailer. The only difference was that it would occasionally downshift to 6th or 7th on small inclines and would hold lower gears longer when accelerating up to highway speeds.

I was really amazed to see that the trip computer claimed an average of 15.8 mpg overall and that included about 20 miles of local driving. I guess the light weight trailer and aerodynamic Vette really helps. Also the A/C was turned off since it was only 50 degrees.

Needless to say, I am extremely happy with my new choice of tow vehicle. And that is from a die hard Chevy guy who just replaced a Suburban he has owned for 20 years.

Man is that ever one sharp looking rig...including the D.
...and what else would look as good towing a badass American Vette than a R/T Durango?
Thanks, I agree the Durango is a sharp looking tow vehicle.

Being a Chevy guy, I was thinking about a new Tahoe until I checked prices. A fully loaded Tahoe equipped similar to my Durango would have been around $15K more. (The prices of fully loaded Suburbans are even more shocking). The R/T is smaller, but it is much better looking and a nicer driving vehicle.

Very nice!

I used to tow my 500 hp Mercury Marauder on a 22" flatbed trailer with a Dodge Hemi pickup. I towed it to Michigan and back several times along with trips to the track. The Hemi was great in that capacity.

I don't tow with my Durango but can see I would get the same results as you got if I did.

That's a sweet looking Vette and Durango. What kind of racing do you do with the Vette?

I do HPDE (High Performance Driver Education) track sessions with my local BMW club. There aren't any Corvette clubs near me that run on the track. The BMW owners at the track are real car guys, and they are happy to share the track with Vettes. I started about 5 years ago and have worked my way up to the Advanced group. It is a lot of fun, and a great way to explore the limits of your high performance car in a reasonably safe environment. I go with another Vette owner and we have a great time chasing each other around the track.

That's awesome. I was talking with another Hellcat owner that just got back from Sebring with his and it was a ton of fun.
