Edit: I've removed some misc stuff I had here. I will be adding information regarding adding the tow package to a 2014 Durango as I get ready to order the parts and ultimately do the install myself. I've been doing lots of MOPAR searches trying to make this as painless as possible on myself and be certain I'm getting everything needed to install the hitch in one shot.

I can confirm the following items that are listed in the tow package are included standard on a 2014 Durango with the 5.7L HEMI V8:
•220-Amp Alternator
•Full Size Spare Tire
•Heavy Duty Engine Cooling
•Steel Spare Wheel

I'm uncertain about the suspension, but believe it is:
•Rear Load Leveling Suspension

That leaves the only things that are definitely not included (unsurprisingly, the hitch and an accessory harness):
•7 and 4 Pin Wiring Harness
•Class IV Receiver Hitch

Need to add the tow hitch to your vehicle? Here are the parts necessary (may be incomplete - will update as needed):
The hitch (Part # 52124606AF, MSRP $209): http://www.mopar.com/part/52124606AF?s=363651&i=4538001

The wiring kit (Part # 68088278AB, MSRP $29.25): http://www.mopar.com/part/68088278AB?s=363656&i=4611932&b=dodge

The hitch cover (Part # 05113692AA, MSRP $58.70): http://www.mopar.com/part/05113692AA?s=363651&i=4606994&b=dodge

Optionally, the 7 to 4 pin wiring harness (Part # 56019823, MSRP $18.85): http://www.mopar.com/part/56019823?s=363651&i=274742&b=dodge
Note: You'll almost certainly need a 7 to 4 pin harness, but you can opt for a cheaper one from Harbor Freight or pretty much any auto accessory source.

My original post (thankfully I wasn't completely hosed): I could've swore I had the tow package when I bought this weekend, but popped off the cover and nothing. I'm sure I made a bad assumption after seeing the cover and assumed it was there. I'll need to check the sticker later. That said, assuming I made a big mistake, does anyone have a list of everything included in the tow package? Curious if it would be possible to order the parts, but guessing I might be hosed. Really pissed I overlooked this...

I feel your pain. I will double check the cover too when it gets delivered to the dealer.

As stated on the build out Dodge site:
Trailer Tow Group IV
•220-Amp Alternator
•7 and 4 Pin Wiring Harness
•Class IV Receiver Hitch
•Full Size Spare Tire
•Heavy Duty Engine Cooling
•Rear Load Leveling Suspension
•Steel Spare Wheel

I see where I screwed up. The HEMI does have the 220 alternator and heavy duty engine cooling - it was right on the sticker and between that and the cover, I thought it was there. The pricing increase was the chrome option package with side steps, but thankfully I had negotiated that off the bill. I'll need to get under the back tomorrow, but theoretically if it's possible to get the cross-bar with hitch and hookups, that's all I'd really need I believe. Weird they make all those items as being part of the package, as it looks like my spare is full-sized too on top of the fact that those other components were actually part of the HEMI package. Seems like an easy way to try justifying $1000 for the tow hitch and electrical.

Definitely curious if they add a towing mode when you have the hitch factory installed.

I believe, when all is said and done, you won't have the trailer brake connector under the dash. If all you're towing is light stuff, that won't matter.

The full-size spare is part of the package because you don't want to be pulling 7000lb riding on a compact spare.

There is no "tow mode" on the '14s.

Thanks for the clarification Tom. Hmm I guess it's going to be a "wait and see" moment right now as this is so new. I'm really bummed by the oversight. Will have to research third party brake control options if they're out there.

I inquired a couple of months ago as I had put a deposit down on a D w/o the tow hitch. At that time there was no OEM hitch receiver available for the '14's. The dealer did say they could try to install the '13 hitch but the cover would not fit and they would need to remove and cut the bumber to complete the install!

Good luck!

There are aftermarket options available. They would not look as clean and I imagine towing capacity with drop a bit.

I imagine Mopar will come out with a kit, but I haven't seen it listed on the website yet.

As far as the brake controller, you'll have to do it the old fashioned way (stringing the wires yourself) :(

First off you probably have the entire wiring harness including the brake controller lead. It appears you don't have the load leveling suspension and no full size spare. The spare is a easy fix and you could go for the shocks if you want them. Word is the rear load leveling shocks are noisy and some have had dealers replace them only to have the noise come back within a few 1000 miles. Some dealers are just offering to swap out the load leveling shocks for regular ones. You will need the factory hitch and the end plug for the wiring harness. Since you have the removable hitch cover on the bumper you shouldn't need to cut the rear bumper and install the factory benzyl like I did with my 2013. MY 13 R/T didn't have the tow package but u had the dealer put on the factory hitch and cover and install the factory plug. all the wiring was already in the truck. you can just peek up by the spare tire and see the connector if your lucky. The dealer will need to activate the factory wiring harness with their computer and in my case the vin in the system shows it as having the factory tow package.

My 13 D came equipped with the trailer tow package, but no hitch itself. What this means is I have all that other stuff minus the hitch.
Including the load leveling shocks tow haul button, wiring and all the heavy duty cooling. If I decide to add the hitch itself and have the dealer engage it in the PCM its all there.

Thanks for the input guys. Just an update. I went under the car yesterday and the harness is there like Steve mentioned - I'll just need the cable that separates all of the connections for trailer use (and probably have them activate it). Unfortunately the crossbar that would have the hitch on it appears to be welded. It honestly looks like they simply welded a small panel to cover up where the hitch should be instead of just welding on the hitch. So theoretically it should be removable with an angle grinder and some cleanup, and then I could have a pro weld on a hitch. I think pretty much everything else is on place. I'll take some pics in the next day or so. Not sure if I'll go ahead and do this yet, but I don't think it would cost any more than ordering a 3rd party hitch that I'd install myself and it would look much better. Would anyone be able to take some pics of their 2014 hitch? Important views would be with the panel off and from under the bumper. No biggie if not, but would really appreciate it!

Is the load leveling work in auto or you have to do any thing, and is the 2014 the same.

Hi everyone,
Could someone post a picture of their tow hitch with the panel popped off? I just want to verify the electrical hookup under the panel. I'm pretty sure the only thing that I'll need to order is the hitch and the plastic cover (the one that comes on the Durango without hitch doesn't accommodate the hitch once installed). I've had a really hard time finding any info on removing the rear bumper fascia, so I might need to actually figure it out on my own and post the details. If someone does have that info too or knows what resource I could turn to, I'd be super grateful. Thanks!
