I hope I got that right. Basically, I have the 8.4 UConnect without built in nav. I can get the 8.4 with with factory nav built in for cheap. I understand I can get nav installed for $500 but I can swap it cheaper if it works.

Just wondering if anyone has tried swapping radios

If the nav system in the Durango is the same one used in the RAM trucks I say save your $$. I had it in my '14 RAM and it was the most useless piece of crap I've ever seen for a NAV system. It would give you a route and if you wanted to take a different road it would continually re-compute the route.....to get you back onto the original one it had come up with in the first place. Often it would tell me to make a turn onto a road that wasn't there. What WAS there was an empty field! In contrast, my TomTom would completely give you a new route, using the road you were on, and do it NOW. Plus the information it gives is far better than the factory setup. Best of all, I get free map upgrades four times a year for life of the product, and the total cost was $159. It's not as fancy as the one in the dash, and you have to plug it in, but IMO it's head and shoulders above the built-in setup. I'm sure other opinions may vary on this, but my experience with the OEM nav was horrible at best.

Not sure how much another unit would cost to swap out. The nav and controls I think are often voted best around. Yes, I agree when you deviate it does get annoying trying to get you back on the scheduled route. The current version is much better than what is in my 2012 300srt.

the nav was voted best around ?!@ holy shit. best around what ? its horrible, in every way. use your iphone. no automaker in existence has ever developed a nav system anywhere close to what your smartphone can do. unless they are paying you $500 to put it in, I would pass.

It should be plug and play. Check out oemautopartsco.com for info. Bur the one they have is WAY more expensive.

The only question I have is if the turn by turn directions will show up in the speedometer like the factory installed on does.

Can you let me know once you install it?

Thanks!

Turn directions do show up in the speedometer.

Its my understanding...if you have the 8.4 you already have Nav...everything is already built in, you just need someone at the dealership to activate it in the software.

I know this how it worked with my wife's '14 Cherokee.
