While my 98 Durango is parked and getting some much needed suspension overhauling, I've been toying with the idea of swapping out the probably much tired stock cam.

It has approx 158k miles on it but still runs strong and starts right up like a champ. I'm just wanting a lil more power out of it for when I'm towing trailers. Nothing too excessive, just a step or two over the stock cam would be great for me since I do drive it back and forth to work. I also want it to work with the stock computer as well without having to reprogram anything if possible.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm currently looking to see what the stock OE cam specs are but haven't found them yet.

Go to the comp cams website. They have a good selection of everything from mild to wild. I believe thay have a sort of questionaire to help find the right cam. You presently have an hydraulic roller cam in your engine, I wouldn't change to a different type of cam, such as flat tappet or solid roller. Use a new hydraulic roller cam and lifters. A less invasive fix would be to go to 1.7 ratio roller rockers. It'll have the same effect as a very mild cam without having to take the engine any further down than the valve covers. They require the cast rocker covers from Mopar to fit.

Agreed, don't go to crazy or you'll need an SCT programmer to take full advantage of the effects.

Our D's like a great cam but unfortunately the computer doesn't. Fastman can set you up with a nice towing grind, but you'll have to have the computer adjusted or buy a second one for $50 and have it flashed. One word of advice, take note of your RPM band with O/D off. That's your base towing setup. :)

Ok, since I don't want to change my PCM settings, I'm better off leaving my cam alone. I'm guessing since my vehicle runs good, I can still do the 1.7 rockers & covers and a CAI since I never got around to mocking up my own homemade one.
