Battery voltage

2017 dodge Durango, GT V6. I’ve been having a problem with my Durango for the last couple months. I’ve changed a lot of parts. The newest thing I just changed was the alternator on Saturday. I change the alternator because my voltage was dropping from 12 V and it pulls go up to 14.6 V. It kept fluctuating between those two. Just got both my batteries checked out at O’Reillys and they said they’re perfectly fine. Has anyone had this issue before? The only times the batteries fluctuate are when I’m in park, reverse and drive.

Weak batteries are a known problem causer on DDs so if your batteries are 4+ years old you may need to replace them regardless of the testing you had done. Weak batteries will cause various electronic gremlins in the DD.

We have seen quite a few posts here from 3.6L Durango owners with widely varying voltage readings on their charging system. I don't recall there being a one size fits all smoking gun remedy.
I just picked up a '20 SXT Plus, and so far so good.

I really think it is your battery though you should verify that the battery terminal clamps are clean and tight and that the chassis ground in that compartment is tight to a good ground.

Voltage regulation comes from the PCM, not the alternator and the state of charge is monitored by the IBS which is connected to the negative side of the battery. In your case it is most likely your batteries as I have a 2017 DD GT (had its original batteries) and I replaced both batteries several months ago as I was getting "battery protection" warnings during cool weather (ESS would almost never activate). Both batteries checked out good but after replacement I no longer get the warning. In my case, my commute is only 12 miles round trip so the batteries don't get much of a chance to fully recharge so about once a month I use a battery charger to top them off.

One thing you might want to do is check the fuses.

There are fuses at the + jumper post.

And one in the battery compartment.
