Just did a little test in the garage. If I put it in park, leave it running, and DON"T close the door and get out, I got three LIGHT FLASHES but no honk. Then if I do the same, except also close the door and get out, and I get three honks (didn't notice if the lights flashed too, but I suspect so).

IMHO the tech built into these beasts is just absolutely amazing. Yeah, we come here to complain a lot, but dayum, I know I've got all kinds of different dash layouts, settings, etc. to explore, and I'm as giddy as a twelve year old on Christmas about passing that 500 mile mark. Heck, I just yesterday realized the tach pointer is LED, and not an actual physical gauge pointer LOL.

I have not checked the Performance Pages yet, nor have I checked the Drive Modes yet, but I was a big user of the "Custom"setting Drive Mode in both of our Scat Packs, and I am SO STOKED about being able to choose the power delivery split to wheels when I can get in and set up a "Custom" drive mode setting. I know folks love RWD and RWD bias with monster engines, but I plan to really do so testing using the 50/50 spit. I'm just stoked! :)

My 23’ R/T does not.

Really not that big of an issue. It’s just warning you that the vehicle is running and you/key is being removed from it.
It's a VERY annoying warning that I just don't feel is necessary. I like to run into a quick mart or back into the house if I forgot something and I don't need to be warned about something I already know. It's also quite loud and by the time you close the door you're basically standing right next to the horn so you get three blasts right in your ear. It's also annoying to others that may be near your car.

My 2018 392 didn't do it....my 2023 does. It's annoying as hell...especially if it's late at night or you are otherwise trying to be quiet. And my wife has pointed out that the interior chime goes off incessantly...which is not really a big deal but does make me wonder WTF.....

It's a safety feature to alert you that you've left the vehicle running. It's supposed to discourage you from doing so as a lot of cars get stolen because the owner left it running while they ran into the store for "just a minute".
You'll have to get used to it as there is no way to turn it off.
However, if you close the door without letting it latch, the 3 honks will not activate.
Just tried this and it works! THANKS! :)

Someone else had posted that if you hold the fob against the glass when you close the door, it won't honk. It worked once for me, but failed a second time. It seems that the only reliable solutions are to not close/latch the door, leave fob in car, or shut car off (or try the fob against the glass knowing its unreliable). But I rarely exit the car when it's running (it's illegal to do so in many jurisdictions if car is empty or has kids in it, so I don't remember the problem until I hear the honks...)

I live in the country with no close neighbors. I occasionally stop at the end of the driveway to check the mail. I just ignore the horn beeps. If my wifey is in the passenger seat the horn does not beep because she carries a FOB in her purse.
If I back out of the garage and need to let the engine run, I lay the FOB on the console. No beeps when I exit the vehicle. I do not let the engine run if I am not in "visual contact" with the vehicle.
The remote start will not let you start the engine without the doors being locked.

I have owned the DD for almost a year and this has happened maybe 3-4 times. Usually I am in the driveway of my house and wife ask me if I left the TV on for the dog, so I jump out with key FOB in my pocket and the horn beeps. When CaptMoe provided the solution I wanted to check it out.

Went to visit my 91 year old Mom and she asked me why the DD was running? Even she knows I don’t leave my car running unattended. Lol

FYI those cars under covers are GTO, Taurus and Mustang LX 5.0L SSP.

When it's really cold or really hot out I want to leave my car running if I have to get out for a couple minutes so that the a/c or heater stays on. If that's at a quickmart or something I don't want to leave the door open. Shouldn't be hard to understand. There is zero reason to have the horn beep and tell/annoy me about something I already know. In fact having the key outside the car is what you want in this scenario and the vehicle won't lock with the key inside the car anyway. So, why would it need to tell me that I've left with the key?

Y'all can thank lawsuits for this new feature.

Apparently it became standard across the board (Jeep, Dodge, Ram) in 2022.
You can't disable it through unconnect, as it's a "safety feature".
Might be able to with a Tazer module, not sure.

Only workaround would be to turn the vehicle off when you get to where you're parking briefly. Get out and immediately remote start it. Then it won't honk. Or just, you know, leave the door unlatched. Lol.

This is exactly what I plan to do. I looked into the Tazer module and I didn't see any capability for turning it off.

I just asked my buddy who is a PO and has brand new DD issued to him by the county. He just tried it and no three honks, so there is definitely a way of removing it.

Not sure if it’s done by Dodge or motor pool, but it can be removed.

Interesting, I'd love to find out how it gets disabled. Maybe the Tazer module will do an update and add this to the things you can modify.

What is an acceptable solution to leaving your car running unattended?
What do you see as the problem with closing your door without letting it latch?
The acceptable solution some people, like me, are seeking is to stop the vehicle from honking when closing the door and the vehicle is running, and taking the keys as to lock the vehicle while outside of it and it is still running. It is super annoying, especially where I live in a densely packed city. I get it, some don't care if their vehicle honks, alarms go off, etc. at any hour of the day/night. I like to be courteous to my neighbors and the three honks is SUPER annoying. Especially as I would like to put HELLA horns on like I had on my last Durango, to help alert the horrible drivers out there that a vehicle is next to them when they try to lane change, but specifically don't because of the times I forget about this feature that can't be deactivated and really don't want to tick my neighbors off with that.

Every time I exit when it's running, it is 80% of the time to load/unload something from either the rear cargo area or trailer/bike rack and I don't want to turn the car off and back on. I also DON'T want to leave my keys in the vehicle if I'm in a parking lot or my neighbor hood and specifically take my keys so I lock my doors. In these cases I would, as I did in my last Durango without this feature, exit the vehicle and close the door, if I needed the cargo area I would have the lift gate open and lock the doors while I'm doing the load/unload (such driving up and doing curb loading at a hardware/appliance store/etc).

If it's loading/unloading my bike rack before or after pulling in/out of the garage, same thing, lock the doors while the vehicle is running and load/unload. As we all know, if a criminal absolutely wants something they'll steal it, but there's levels various wrongdoers will go to and the least effort (a running vehicle with the door open and owner at the rear of the vehicle) is extremely easy versus having to bust out a window, etc. So it's working to prevent that lowest level while doing common tasks and not dealing with the annoying three honks.

The other 20% of the time is got the vehicle started and forgot something like getting the trash out to the curb, forgot something right inside the door of the house (usually coffee, lol), or something in the garage. So it's get out and close/lock the door to do that without annoying neighbors at 6 am with the 3 honks.

Accident double post, sorry

I have a 23 Durango RT blacktop it does the same thing although annoying I just close my door enough to not latch horn doesn't beep then

Just FYI: Apparently the latest firmware release of the zAutomotive Tazer now includes disabling the 3 honks on the Durango.

I don't have a Tazer anymore, so can't confirm ... but this has been a feature in the non-Durango's for a while and looks like they finally added it for Durango.
