In my 98, the 2nd row seats are havin 2 problems?Driverside wouldn't latch down. If I have to stop fast, the whole seat pops up and hits my seat. The pasenger side seat release wouldn't release it. I have to lean in and use the orange one in the center at the foot of the 3rd row. Help, very frustrating. JP

I have a sticky passenger 2nd row seat. It only releases after I lean into it a bit. Could they be warping or just out of alignment?

Hmmmm. Good to know It isn't just me.

I had the same problem when I bought my 99 used. I ended up first trying to lube things. After that didn't work, I ended up flipping seat up, slightly undoing the trim on the bottom and figuring out how the mechanism worked. The latches (levers) use cables to pull on the mechanism to release the seat. The cables will stretch over time and loose effectiveness. The trick was to make slight bends and adjustments so both of the levers (orange and side) would have the right amount of tension and thus allow releasing of the latch.

As far as not being able to latch, there might be resistance in the cables and mechanisms not allowing things to fully release after you have let the lever go. You might try lubing the mechanism and cables to free things up.

Good luck, it was a pain but now my seats work great. Lock nicely and release when you want them to.
