Hello everyone ,
My Son and I went to the Track finally to lay down some Stock times. The only thing my R/T has is a Drop in K&N Air Filter.

I use to race years ago a 82 Firebird which ran it's best of 13.8 and my 87 Grand National which it's best was a 11.6
My 17 has a Tow Package, Sun Roof, Tech Package and a Black out package. Regular 3 rows bench 2nd row.

Pre for the Durango was a follows
1)I removed my personal stuff that had any weight to it like tool bags etc.
2)Put 91 Octane gas in just to make sure I was getting 89 as I had 1/8 tank and usually just use 89 but I put in another 1/8 in of 91 which gave me 1/4 tank about 6 or so gallons total.
3)Checked all tires and balanced them all at 36PSI.
Gave her a complete bath and wax, gotta be clean for race night.

Went to Atco Raceway park in New Jersey which it was super hot at 94 on our way down and 91 for our first run.
My first run was ok I ran a 14.8 @ 93.98 MPH. I took off at 1000 RPM's as I was busy watching my Son race for his first time in his Audi A4. We raced each other it was fun. He was a 15.6 @ 91.25 MPH. It's a Turbo 4 cylinder and it was really hot out. I told him not to get down about it as my GN ran like crap when it was this hot out.
Next Pass was better for both of us. The Durango Ran a 14.6 @ 94.97 MPH which I launched this time at 2000 RPM's.
Temp outside at this point dropped into the high 80's like 86 or 87 and from 94 it felt much better but still very humid.

I know I can pull a 14.4 or 14.5 @ 95-96MPH as I feel it had something left. My Son and I where basically heat stroked and are gonna make another few passes this fall in cooler weather. I'm gonna leave it setup the way it is and get at least 2 or 3 more factory stock factory street weight passes so I can measure my Mod's performance gains.

My truck was number 145 and my Son was 146.

I also took the Stupid plastic engine cover off as my engine was really hot and it seemed to be holding heat in. I still don't see any reason other then a dress up for this stupid engine cover.

Loved those Grand Nationals! Buddy of mine used to have a turbo Trans Am, Indianapolis Pace Car edition, which I believe had the same motor as the Grand National. It was the first automatic transmission car I ever rode in, that would chirp the tires when shifting, it was great! Sounds like you and your son had a nice time!

A friend of mine also has a 89 Turbo Trans Am and that is one of my all time favorite cars. I wished for the Turbo 3.8L to go into a Trans am and Pontiac did it. His ran 13.3 @106 Stock.

I was pretty happy considering how damn hot it was outside. But Atco is at Sea level so it gives me a good idea what she is doing now. I'm sure I can shave off at least .1 or .2 off those times when the weather gets cooler. I dropped .2 in the 1/4 just going from 91 degrees out to in the 80s on the second pass.

I find it's gonna be a little difficult to stay stock until we race again in a few weeks or so when the weather cools down some. Racing in the heat isn't as fun as when it's cooler out and your not dripping sweat in your helmet.
My goal is to go 14.5 or 14.4 at 95 or 96 mph I'm very sure the truck can pull those numbers. Atco is at sea level and I know the heat slowed it down. Going .2 faster with just a few degrees difference I know a few more will help out as well. The cooler air coming in should provide maximum power. I can launch her as hard as I want as it barely spins the tires at all. Traction is of no concern with AWD.
Then without a tune I want to see what some bolt ons will provide in faster ET's. So many people talk about how cold air intakes don't do much if anything at all as well as a Cat back exhaust.
Going with a Cam and full Headers I know should make some power even before a tune which I will do last.
So I think the future goals will be Intake and Exhaust first, go test lay down so ET's. Then maybe a Trottle body upgrade and some polishing of the intake manifold unless I can find a better flowing manifold. Then a Cam and headers with high flow Cat's when last buy not least a full tune.
I want to drop into the mid 13's or so with it without adding a Super Charger or gear change. No shift Kits or Stalls as I think the Transmission is pretty fantastic as I was impressed with the lighting fast shifts I was getting blasting down the track.
It's been so long since I raced or even had anything fun to drive. I've been stuck in SUV hell with 2 Pathfinder and a Murano since 2005 that the Durango puts a huge smile on my face every single time I drive it. I know I'm gonna buy a car like a Challenger and go wild.

Is your Durango awd? It’s hard to source but it looks like the awd rt are faster than rwd. I just bought a 2014 rwd rt I wonder what I can expect at sea level. Great times for sure though for a 5k boat!
Yes it is. I would think the rear wheel drive would be slightly faster. It's heavy so traction still shouldn't be an issue with the right tire pressure but at the big end you should have better MPH due to the lighter weight.
Go to your local track and find out. Atco is $25.00 make as many passes as you can. I only got in 2 due to it was just to hot out.

How do you launch this thing?

Cool thanks. The 17 still had the rotary shift knob right?
Yes it does and it's the ONLY thing I absolutely HATE about this Vehicle. My You tube video of the things I hate about my Durango would only have the Shift knob LOL.
Lol foreal. Ima try launching this thing around 2k see what happens. I’m on vacation right now so I look forward to getting back in the d. I was under the impression you had to tap the brake to shift it from neutral to drive so it might be tricky launching it at 2k if that’s the case. Thanks for your info!

You pull up to the light. Wait for both Yellow lights to turn on, your in Drive at this point moving forward till both lights are on. Left foot on the brake right foot on the gas. Ref up to 2000RPM's and hold till the tress drops to last yellow, you time the light count and then mash the gas and release the brake at the same time and hold on. Or use the paddle shifters if you feel you can shift as good as the transmission or just for for but error can occur if you use the paddles and your not good as shifting at the perfect shift points.
