Hey gang...been lurking for a while but have a few questions. This may get long but bear with me.
Purchased a new 2013 Ford Edge back about 1.5 years ago. Really nice vehicle...got the 2.0 Ecoboost (FWD) and got 26mpg on a 5500 mile round trip out west last June. Its comfortable and its a nice ride...but even though I'm getting pretty good mileage I really miss the sound of a V-8. I've been a Ford guy for 20 years. I've owned 3 Taurus SHO's: 1995, 1997 and a 1999. In 2004 I bought a 2004 Mercury Marauder and put a supercharger on it...had 450rwhp. Drove it for 10 years and had 45000 miles on it when I sold it last April. While I don't need that much HP in a vehicle I have started to take long vacation trips (national park tours and such) so I needed something that traveled well. Bought the Edge and its a great driving car...just miss the V-8. I put about 12-14K on a vehicle every year. I put about 3-4K on driving around then 2 long trips per year...all highway. I did the math and going from 25mpg down to 20mpg (say in the Hemi Durango) the cost is only like $300-$400 a year. Not that big of a deal.
I'm in Law Enforcement. Back in 2012 I was on patrol as a supervisor and got the chance to get 2012 Ford Interceptor or a 2012 Dodge Charger with the Hemi. I jumped at the Dodge as the Ford Interceptor is too tight fitting for tall guys like myself and it wouldn't have come with the 3.5 Ecoboost, only the regular V-6. Soo....I drove the heck out of a 2012 Charger with a Hemi for 1.5 years. Absolutely loved it.
I transferred to Investigations in mid-2013 and in January 2014 they ordered a new squad for me...unmarked....2014 Dodge Durango. This is where the story gets interesting.
I love my work Durango so much that I want to buy one of my own....a black 2014 R/T with almost all of the goodies. I absolutely LOVE that it sits higher and almost feels like a pickup. I love the controls, view from inside and overall feel and comfort.
Couple questions:
I really wanted the full Navigation but the dealer in my hometown has one that only has the 8.4A. They will throw in the 8.4A Nav upgrade with the deal...so I won't have to shell out $600 for it.
I wouldn't use the Sirius Travel Link or Voice Activation that comes with the full 8.4AN Nav. I don't mind punching in addresses by hand. This dealer activated Nav seems like it will fit the bill.
Question: Anyone had any issues with the dealer activated Navigation vs. the full navigation?
Second....the dealer offered me the R/T at 42,700. Only issue is they're not quite up to where I need them to be on my Ford Edge trade in. I'm behind a bit...of course...as I've only had the Edge for about 16 months.
The R/T I'm looking at has everything I'd need or want...It does have the Captains Chairs in the 2nd Row but I wanted bench...not a huge deal. Its got the sunroof, 8.4 screen and upgraded stereo with sub. Its not the blackout version so its got the chrome/black rims and its sharp.
Thoughts on the price for a 2014? 42,700 seems reasonable. I'm writing a check out for a few thousand to catch up on the Edge.....still taking a bit of a wash on it....but what do you do
I've been preapproved for more than enough to cover the Durango, TTL, and some type of extended warranty and the payment is where I need it to be. I'm just not sure if I should try and get a 2015.
I don't believe there were any major changes from 2014 to 2015....anyone correct me? When I walk into the dealership in 4-5 years to trade off...is having a 2014 vs. a 2015 with 60-70K on it really going to be that much? Couple thousand?
Thoughts? Do I need to buy a new vehicle? Absolutely not....its one of those things though.....I can afford it and I would be in a vehicle that I know I'll enjoy for the next 4-5 years. Just looking for a nudge and some encouragement!!
Thanks!
Mark
