I have an 02 durango that will not shift into 3rd gear. I was told I could possibly swap out the shift solenoid with a new one and have it working like new again is that the case or no.

46re or 45rfe?
46re requires band adjustments I believe every 100K along with the filter/fluid changes.
But not sure if replacing the solenoid will fix, but that does allow shifting and should throw a code if there is a problem detected with it.

I believe it's the 46re and I have yet to throw it on a scanner that is my next job

If you have the 5.9, then it's the 46RE. Band adjustments are recommended at 30k intervals. Dodge did a terrible job of promoting this (Gee I wonder why?)
The 4.7 OTOH has the 45RFE behind it, and has no bands.

Make sure your scanner can read transmission codes...a lot of them can't, at least the basic scanners.
