Your state should not fail the rear lights just because the racetrack doesn't work - it is purely ornamental. If it was dangerous there would have been a recall years ago. As long as you have the tail lights, brake lights and third eye brake light you are safe. You need to call BS on them.
In Pa.all lights have to work during inspection.

My Durango now is parked in the garage I do have some lights left in the back $1500 to fix it is not in the budget at this time The LED light has cut out in a lot of spots in the back but I still have some lighting lol! When you open up the back hatch door there’s two screws on the side we just left one screw out on each side as that let the water drain out there’s some videos online about it I just can’t believe they haven’t fixed the issue and the rear lights that aren’t connected to the race track are built very cheaply as it sticks out and it’s not even sealed as wellMine cut onto a plastic storage bin and chipped it that’s how cheaply it’s made
there is a potential class action lawsuit

I have a 2018 durango gt bought new in 2019. It has almost 50,000 miles on it. Looks brand new. I have never had a car with so many issues. The first 3 yrs i had it, used the factory warranty multiple times. I bought an extended Warranty right before it expired because of this. Hopefully it will cover this. The Last issue was rear main seal was leaking along with the oil pan seal And that was a year ago. Went thru the car wash today. Got home and the racetrack lights and license plate light Completely out. Flashed for a sec then nothing. I will never buy a dodge again. If cars weren't so expensive right now i would trade it in. I have no hope for this Vehicle.

Update my top tier expensive extended warranty will not cover the racetrack light fix Because they said its a light. Not happy! If it was just because the lights are old and went out, well duh i can understand but Its a defective piece of
crap!

I’ve had my Durango since 2019 and noticed water getting into the racetrack light since 2021. Recently the right side is starting to dim and most recently I’ve been having electrical problems throughout the vehicle. I.E: Right blinker saying its out, then works, auto start stop needs service then its fine after next start up, back door ajar when not, goes away after driving around. It’s like roll of the dice and ever since it’s been getting worse and dimming the light all these things have been happening. To the point it’s parked in the garage and have to carpool due to the worry it will fault something while driving. I work on the road and some of my drives are over 10 hours one way and I don’t need faults in the middle of no where. This needs to be addressed and fine the company for knowing but doing anything about it, especially when it comes to road safety and laws.

I have a 2014 durango has the same issue. I disconnected the lights. I talked to a buddy of mine he is a cop. He told me that the lights on the lift gate are out you can still drive as long as you have the plate lights brake lights and turn signals as long the side are still operational. Back in the day when police department purchased the durango's they would disconnect the track lights cause people knew it was a cop car. So they disconnected it to catch people. All you have to do is disconnect the wires to the lights and the plate lights and back up camera will still work. It will allow you to still operate the vehicle at night.
