So I am/was considering trading/selling my 2019 Durango SRT for a 2023 that I would special order. Just talked to my local dealer, though, who told me that the system currently won't let them enter an order for a 2023 SRT 392 with the Trailer Tow package. WTF? A supply chain issue? That's a non-starter for me, but I thought Dodge was touting the 8700 pound tow rating as a big selling point for all V8 durangos.

I told the dealer to call me when the system allows the order to be placed with all my "wants;" tow package, cargo group, technology group, interior group (not the red seats though), sunroof....I think that was it.

According to Dodge.com, there are only 4 colors available for the SRT in 2022 (black, white, red, and gray)....not sure if that was something new for 2022 but there were more choices in 2019. The website has not yet been updated with 2023 info.....maybe things are messed up during this transition period.

Or...maybe I will just have to order a Hellcat.....LOL.....

The lack of color choices was a 2022 thing. At the start of ordering there were 6 and it was eventually cut down to 4. Not sure about the towing package, it was an option when I ordered mine, but recently saw a post on FB from someone maybe a month ago who went to order his and he couldn't get the towing package and a spare tire...and was told they were no longer options for the SRT.

You are correct, when I did my factory order in June/2022 they did not offer the tow package for the SRT - it was not a deal breaker for me though, my dealer did mention that they can install one of my choice free of charge whenever I decide to add this to my 22 SRT. I ordered all of the options other than the tech group and the special leather on the dash and headliner.

So when an aftermarket hitch is put on a Durango, do they cut into the bumper fascia? If they put it below the bumper fascia, the hitch would be WAAAAY too low, IMO. And what about the wiring? I suppose a good dealer could install the factory hitch and replace the original bumper fascia with the "factory" hitch-accomodating fascia, and wire it appropriately, but that seems to be a significant project for a trailer hitch.

I don't believe that they do, the well for the spare tire is there already and my SRT came with a matte black lower diffuser already, the middle part of the diffuser comes off pretty easily, it is held together by 2 locking rivets. I don't believe it would be a big project - my dealer made it seems like they do this all the time. I don't know how other dealers handle after market tow hitches but this is a direct Dodge dealer that I'm dealing with

They made that change on all Durangos starting with MY2014. There is a 'bulged' cover that fits over the hitch receiver, you just swap out the 'flat' cover that is on non-tow package Ds.

Thanks. Good to know. I didn't realize that the non-tow group durango's also had the removable panel. Of course in the tow package models, the wiring receptacles are built into the fascia, covered by the bulged panel.

It still boggles the mind (my mind, anyway) that they make towing a big part of the sales pitch, yet don't offer the tow package...

My first DD was my 19 RT and I had the tow package and rarely used it, I can see how others can utilize this feature though. My salesman sold me on the fact that it was an SRT and I could customize it with all the features that I wanted. Not once did my salesman mention towing. I guess it all depends on which dealer you go with.

That is interesting as I see at least 2 2022 SRTs within 50 miles from me with Tow packages. Both of mine, 2017 R/T and 2021 Hellcat came with factory tow packages. Don’t use them much, but they are nice to have.

I wonder what is going on with Dodge; first, limited number of colors, then 23 DDHC, now no Tow Packages for SUV that is advertised with highest towing rating. What’s next, fairy dust in the engine bay?

While your dealer can add the physical towing reciever, they can't add a couple key aspects of the tow package:

The integrated trailer brake controller. Aftermarket can work, just doesn't integrate with the digital dash.

Spare tire (Technically this can be added, but it's very $$)

Enable the tow driving mode in the drive mode page. The tow driving mode engages the active sound canceling which makes a huge difference as the SRT is anything but quiet and the giant echo chamber that is your rear cargo area makes the interior loud while towing. Tow mode also puts just the rear shocks in track mode which helps a lot in calming the rear end down.

I don't tow, but I have used the hitch for bike racks and stuff like that. It's def a good thing to have.

The factory tow package is the hitch/wiring/spare tire/break controller.

Great points! for some reason the SRT's come with a donut spare and not the full size spare like my RT came with.

That's because of the run flat tires.

With 2 boat trailers, a utility trailer, 2 cargo carriers, and 2 hitch mounted bike racks, my trailer hitch gets used weekly......

I have the tow package on my '22 SRT that was ordered in January. It tows my racecar just fine. A truck without the ability to tow is just a useless toy to me...

You're entitled to that opinion, I'm happy with my non tow package '22 SRT too - definitely better than my '19 RT. I don't tow a lot and to be honest, even if I did and the dealer couldn't offer me the tow package from the factory. That would not have been a deal breaker for me... everyone is different.
