Looking at shipping on these from both RockAuto and OnLine dealers, RA is quoting $144 for just the shipping the online dealers $200+!! WTF! The shipping is more than the cost of the part. Time to call the local dealer and give them some of the online price quotes and see if they'll get close. Sheesh!

Wow, sorry to hear about your engine....I guess that's what I'm trying to avoid.
I did replaced the cowl and also found that the sunroof drain was clogged, dripping water on the fuse box by the driver's feet. Dried everything out and was confident that those were my issues.
Next day drove locally, no issues. Day after, drove it early in the morning with no issues, parked it and came out to a spring snow storm. Started up ther car put on the wipers to brush off the wet, heavy snow and drove about a mile when it acted up again.
The car chimed and jerked. The jerking was the shutting off of the engine and coming back on almost instantaneously. Then it would die. I would coast to a stop and restart. Something electrical is getting wet....In the past, I have had the puttering and revving of the engine and never thought about water dripping on it. Not sure what is getting wet. Very frustrating.

Jaybird and Michael:
IMO, getting the drain water off of the engine can't do anything but help longevity My D seems to be one of a few that had the old style cowl, water running on top of the engine like a water fall, and no driveability issues. I had never seen anything like what I saw the day I opened my Durango's hood, and let water run from the windshield down.

As mentioned, some folks had the cowl issue, and then eventually the leaking upper intake when put together caused hydrolock destroying the motor.

I was quite surprised to see over time that this post has had almost 40K views. That says something about how many have looked the issue up.

Hi Don,

Thanks for the response.
Wife and kids telling me to dump it...I can't pull the trigger just yet.

Have you ever heard of the power-steering going out for about 10 seconds when you drive through a big puddle on the passenger side?

You are welcome Mike: I think you will find that the loss of PS in such instances is caused by a splash of water on the serp belt. It dries out quickly, and comes right back.

Guys all I can tell you is I replaced 3 ignition coils (one after engine rebuilt and heavy rain). I spent less than $20 and bought that piece of sheet metal and screwed it to the cowl and keep the water off the engine with a crappy leaky cowl still and I have had zero problems. Try that and see if it works before you dump it. Best of luck.

Michael,
I'm not the best one to ask on that question. I would have one of the auto parts stores that do free diagnostic checks run it for you and see where it's coming from. Mine was always the ignition coils after or during heavy rain. Best of luck and let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

Hey Jay,
Just bought the galvanized steel, planning on fitting it in the next day or so. On your video, I see a screw attached to the cowl on the left side....did you attach it anywhere in the back?
Also, couldn't see how you attached it on the left.

Thanks,
Michael

Michael, I just screwed it in 2 locations there in the front of the cowl. It rests on the back and is supported. Be careful sliding it in and bend to direct water. I just rounded it a bit to fit in there. Don’t bend the back side lip at all or it will get caught.

Are all cowls 2003 - 2008 interchangeable?
I never saw anyone actually confirm that the cowl parts that have been listed work/interchangeable with model years 2007 and/or 2008.

55078109AI seems to have looked better to Don Fox
but
5562453AK also acceptable.

Anyway when I search those part numbers they seem to show fittament thru 06.
