Hi Guys,

I just turned 36k on my company leased 17' SXT Durango. My wife noticed the tires looked a little thin. They are about 1/8" from wear bars and I have some uneven wear on the fronts. I do rotate every other oil change so not sure why they are wearing so quickly. No issues in the rain yet... I went on Michelin's website for these tires 60k warranty and several bad reviews on premature wear. I am in Alabama and drive 70% highway 30% local. Moderate driver not too agressive. Occasionally drive on gravel and construction jobsites. Once they get down to the wear bars Enterprise will replace them, not sure what choice I have for replacements. Thanks for the help! Other than standard recalls no issues with the Durango. We have 5 of them in the fleet now and they have been great vehicles. Will even fit a 8' ladder when I need it!:clap:
 
First off the tread depth on the Michelin LTX Premier tires only have a 8.5/32" tread depth when new, not say 10/32" or 12/32". If they are now 1/8" or 4/32" above the tread wear bar indicators (which are at 3/32") then you should have about 7/32" total left. Now let's just say you actually have 6/32" total left just for argument's sake. That means in 36K miles you would have warn down only 2.5/32" of tread, so at that rate it will take you about a total of 79K miles to get down to the wear bars. That's pretty darn good!

Well they are 1/16 to wear bars so they don’t have much tread left. My coworker has 41k on his same Durango and the right rear is bald and left rear past wear bars. He went in a put New Michelin Premiers on and Enterprise approved it. I will bring it in at some point and switch to Michelin LTX or maybe BF Goodrich....
 
You mention uneven wear on the fronts. Can you describe it? Sounds like you need an alignment done.

The inside is wearing, thanks I do need an alignment. Have a long trip next week and then going in for new tires and alignment. It is leased with full maintenance. After researching tire options going with Michelin LTX MS. The Premiers are too soft and need a little more traction and durability for construction sites.

So I went on a long trip from a Bham to Dallas TX this week. (24 mpg average loaded down with tools and equipment) Had tons of rain and tires did not do well, hydroplaned too much all over road. Returned home and found a nail in tread close to side wall and front tire had peeling on the edge. Took it to Pep boys and tried getting Michelin Premire LTX installed but they were $1,200. Enterprise would not approve it so they put on Cooper Adventurer HT. Seems to ride smooth and have a decent tread pattern, time will tell. They were buy 3 get one free. 65k tread life. Also had the alignment done. Now off to dealer for another recall on power train module and my tail light is leaking. Going to let Enterprise deal with tail light issues as we pay for a full maintenance and repair package with our company vehicle lease program.I am at 41k on Durango had 1.5 yrs now.
 
Unless you live in warm weather climate year round & drive like an absolute grandpa, I’m convinced that no tires last for the advertised tread life—especially SUV’s. I replace my tires every 25K—drive through an Upstate, NY winter (that last roughly 5 months) with half tread life and let me know how confident you feel driving on half worn tires.

Update- Coopers are great in the rain and great traction all around. Ride a little stiffer than the Michelin and maybe a little less mpgs. No issues with nails or flats yet. I had 3-4 flats with the Michelin bc it’s a softer tire. Great choice for a mid-grade all season tire. The Cooper Adventurer come in a AT as well as the HT I am running.
 
I'm on 50,800 miles on the original Bridgestone Ecopia tires. Look like they're gonna go another 5-10k. I'm actually kind of amazed...

...and no, I don't drive like a grandpa neither! :p

I am looking for suggestions for replacement tires. These were generally really bad in the rain, even when new, so I'll be looking for better wet performance and similar tread life.
 
Michelin LTX M/S has treadwear rating of 800 - one of the highest out there and still has A rating for temperature and traction. I've put at least 80k miles on every set I've owned across several SUV's. They're not bad on moderately muddy unpaved trails either - I've never had to ask for help cause I got stuck. Of course you have to be smart about where you go and know your equipment's limitations, but excellent tire value. They're also relatively quiet compared to other tires I've had, even when worn.

I’m ordering the continental terraincontact at’s for my citadel hemi.

I was torn between the nitro terragrapler g2 and the contis. But the contis are lighter with a bit more highway tread pattern, and fantastic reviews.
 
Wow, a 'blast from the past' that I never saw until Danintx posted the thread back to the top here. But I actually specified the Michelin LTX on my '17 SXT DD when I purchased it. My last Dodge ('02 Ram 1500) came with them, and I was VERY impressed with their grip on wet roads, so I stuck with them for 15 years. I totally agree, they did tend to wear early, needing replacement around 50K. I should mention that I never run a tire to the wear bar, but replace them when the tire's grip starts to fade. I think the 'early wear' you are experiencing, if you want to call it that, is due to the tread's 'rain-channeling' design and a very soft composition. I don't think the "Premier" is still made, At least, I couldn't ind them locally. I could only get "Latitude" or "Defender" for Carol's Pilot this last time. The 'Latitude' is also an 'all season' tire, so I chose them. Her Pilot is my 'guinea pig'. ;)
We get over 55" of rain every year here in the swamp, and the 'Premier" are (were?) the best performing rain tires I've ever had, bar none. When I had my bike, I also ran quick-wearing "rain grippers" and the rear tire wore out around 10K. Not cheap, but VERY effective. I did tend to really lean that thing in the corners.

That’s what I have on my Citadel.

Absolutely no regrets.
 
this is common with tires delivered on the vehicle from factory. they are NOT the same as what you would buy aftermarket.

Somehow, and Im not exactly sure how, the tires installed on new vehicles are much different than the EXACT tire you would buy from Tire Rack, Kauffman, Discount Tire, ect ...

I suspected this fact, and asked the guys at the tire shop when I was replacing the Goodyear Forterras at 24k miles totally and completely bald (tires were installed new from factory).

now Ive got many thousand more on the same exact tire and its wearing much much better.

Guys at the tire shop all told me this, its pretty common because car manufacturers get a "special" version of the tire to install at the factory which is VASTLY softer and VASTLY different than what you buy after the fact.

Sucks doesnt it ?

So dont base anything off a factory tire, its not the same as normal version of that same exact tire.

Zero idea how Goodyear and every other OEM tire manufacturer somehow segregates their stock ...

Update on the Cooper Adventurer HTs. Overall great traction and tough, no nail punches or issues. Downside after 15k plus miles very very noisy. I have been rotating every oil change. Brought in for service to pep boys and they agree they are extremely noisy,but call it road noise. They said they would call Enterprise lease and try get me into a different tire. I doubt they will change them out. Tread is wearing evenly so not sure why they are so noisy. I emailed Cooper tire, no response yet. I have 40k left on this vehicle before trade in so I guess I will have to deal with it.
 
My next set will be Toyo Open Country QT's. I've been really happy with other Toyo tires on other vehicles I've owned.
I tried a set of Cooper CS3 on my 300 and while they did wear well, handling was nothing special and they had more road noise than any other brand I had.
I ended up pulling them off early for a set of Michelin's which were a big step up in ride quality and lower noise...but I like the Toyo's I replaced the Michelin's with even better.
