Hey Everyone,

Just about to take ownership of a 18' RT Octane Red.

I've always run mud flaps on my vehicles, front and back because where I live (Rural outskirts of the Ottawa Valley, Canada) we get everything. Mud, Snow, Slush, Salt and sand and gravel tossed up on our cars without them.

My question is, do running boards like the DeeZee NXc provide more or less protection from junk being tossed up from the front wheels?

What about running both at the same time?

Lastly, do running boards reduce your ground clearance, and if so, by how much and have you noticed a difference (getting stuck where you didn't before) etc.

Thanks!

I think you will be fine running both. The boards will reduce some of the slop that gets thrown up from the ground but not much. As for the clearance, whatever the thickness to the boards are is how much clearance you will lose. In most cases it will be 2-3 inches.

This is just me thinking and I could be totally wrong but it makes sense. Good luck with the new ride!!

I run both. The steps do cut down on the amount of dirt that hits the sides of the D but not all. I actually only put the steps to help protect the doors from parking lot dents. I put the OEM splash guards and it drastically reduces the amount of debris that gets on the body. Here are a few pics.

This is after driving mostly wet roads with some muck after a few inches of snow yesterday. They do a pretty good job and personally see no need for mud flaps in addition to the boards.
