Yeah I have a Citadel that I bought that came with the Factory Tow Package already installed. That's good to know that I won't have to try and fight my dealer over charging me to activate something that should've been done from the beginning

Gonna be doing some hauling soon and I wanted to make sure that I didn't hook up to the trailer (U-Haul) the day of and go "oh shit..."

What a great thread!!!

I bought a used '13 R/T and I'm awaiting the build sheet to arrive, however in the meantime things that I've noticed on as far as towing. It does not have the OE hitch/reciever but has an aftermarket but last night when I went to pull a little 4X8 pup trailer I couldnt find anywhere to plug the damn thing in so I just hooked it up and drove it anyway since the trailer is so small and empty I figured I would be okay for the few miles I was going without working lights on the trailer. The D has a tow/haul button so I just assumed it had the tow haul package without looking for a connecter when I bought it. (I guess that's partially my fault, I just got too excited about the deal I was getting and got a little side tracked.)

Upon further investigation I found the harness is there but theres no 7 way connector so I just bought this one.

I plan to get rid of the aftermarket hitch as it sits way lower than I want to be pulling anything with and put in the OE hitch, my only hold up is that my bumper does not have the hole for the hitch. So my question is do I need to order a new bumper for this??? if thats the case I dont think I will do it but according to this I can just hack up the bumper and make it work. This scares me a little as well. Anybody that has followed those instructions from Starparts got any input?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah you swap the bumper for one with the cutout. That's cleanest. One of these threads has part numbers. Maybe the beginning of this one. Not sure. The oem hitch is much cleaner than aftermarket

I spoke with a dealer service rep that has been working with me to get the hood repainted under warranty and then with the parts counter guy at the local dealership and they both confirmed that when they do the job they cut the bumper up to get the oem hitch installed correctly. Ill be ordering the hitch and bezel then moving on to other mods. until I get time to pull the bumper hack it up and install the hitch. Will post pics when finished. Also worked it out to get the bezel painted for free when the body shop does the hood!!!

Can someone else update/refresh/reprogram the computer to recognize a tow package and brake controller or dealer only? Thx
dealer only as it updates the vin in the system as well

shouldn't be they are just a 4 pin connector into the factory harness up by the left foot rest

Anyone know?

Hi All,

I'm a DD owner of only 5 days now and these forums have been a big help already. I installed the OEM receiver the other day which was very easy. I didn't want the aftermarket wiring just dangling there so I picked up the OEM harness 82213986AB and installed that last night. No soldering was needed and pictorial instructions were simple to follow. The weird thing was that every wire I needed to plug into the pin connections under the hood already had the same color wires in place. And the instructions just said if factory wires were there to remove and tape back. I looked as best I could in the spare tire area to see if there was already an existing harness but nothing there. Just wondering what those existing wires were for?? After everything was in, no check engine light so I'm wondering if I need to go have the dealer flash it. I didn't get the chance to test power to the plug though.
Wondering the same thing, does anyone know if this is normal to have all the wires already in place but cannot find any harness? I ran the cable the full length and stopped at hooking it up for now as I wasn't expecting to find all the wires already in place. Unsure if I should go ahead and pull them all or what they would be in there for? If I need to pull them does anyone know the best way to remove them?

Thanks in advance.

I purchased a 2013 Durango Crew w/Hemi but without the tow package, and I'm needing to purchase the OEM wiring harness and 7way adapter. Can you provide some insight into which wires get spliced into the lead under the dash or elsewhere? I do not have the convenient gray pigtail connector under the dash near the brake pedal that the brake controller would hook right up to, so I'll have to splice it into the brake lead. Any help you can provide would be awesome!

Thanks,
Jason

I've gotta admit being a bit resentful, as my Crew came with a HEMI but not the wiring, nor the trailer brake connector. Going to attempt the hitch wiring install tonight. As for the aftermarket hitch height, its not terrible (I have the CURT hitch bar) -- biggest challenge is that we have a 5000 lbs camper, and I don't mind the hitch being where it is, but not having the factory wiring has meant I've had to borrow my uncle's truck whenever I want to take the camper on vacation. I'm looking forward to using my own vehicle.
It seems as though I purchased the same type of vehicle (a 2013 Crew) without any of the required wiring and brake controller pigtail. So I'm going to splice and run the wires myself. What did you end up doing, and can you provide any insight and even a wiring diagram showing where to splice things under the dash? Did you buy the OEM wiring kit or some aftermarket kit?

Thanks,
Jason

What exactly is part #56019823 for? For a r/t, I thought I just needed to get 56055632ac which connected to the receiver on the left, and the harness next to the spare tire plugged into this?

56019823 adapts a 7-pin socket on the vehicle to a 4-pin trailer.

When talking about trailer wiring, vehicle year is important. The wiring changed for MY2014.

does anyone have the part number for the bumper fascia for the 2011-2013 model years? the part you install AFTER making the cutout in the factory bumper

2014 SXT > I just purchased the 82214135 Hitch and the 82213986AB Complete wiring harness from quickparts.com (Did from E-Bay)

They arrived in 2 days and everything was perfect. All hardware and instructions (including the new "bulged" hitch hole cover) was included.

I will be installing as soon as the weather allows. I will then get the towing feature flashed by my Dealer if I have no power to the connectors.

Thanks everyone!

Bob

How did it go, Bob? Did you do the harness wiring yourself or dealer? Did you have the brake controller plug under dash already? What are you towing? Thanks!

Hi, I read this entire thread and still have some questions. I have a 2015 DD SXT V6. My wife and I want to purchase a travel trailer (5800 pounds) but my Durango does not have the tow package.

Manual states that towing is limited to 3500 pounds for V6 vehicles without the towing package, BUT if I add a dealer-installed hitch/towing package, will that get me to the 6200 pound threshold? Or does it just get me to 3500 pounds? Or, if we really want this travel trailer, am I going to have to get another Durango with the towing package?

Thanks!
