Hey guys, so my wife lost here job and we have to get rid of our new Pilot.
Were buying from a family friend a 2002 Durango with low miles.

Really worried about the older Dodge stuff. Can you please give me any helpful tips or things to look out for before buying?
Are they known for electrical problems or anything else.

Thanks so much guys. Looking foorward to being involved in the community.

There is an entire forum here to search and read up on that will answer any question you have (including this one) a dozen times over. The content available to simply read here is about a factor of 10,000 to 1 verses what we can post in your thread.

Shocked that user name was available or not already just blanked out of the system for non-availability. Sorta hard to reference a Dodge Durango and you as Dodge Durango at the same time in the same thread. Fred, ya know the Fred details regarding Fred that Fred is talking about Fred?

Maintenance is the key, as long as it was taken care of properly (ie oil changes, atf+4 only in the tranny, etc...) you shouldn't have any major problems.

lol Indy!

as long as she sounds good engine and drives smooth, most of the older d's will put thru paces to 250k miles.
a couple notes,
a leaking power steering pump will cause havoc on the elctrical sensors, some of them can leave you stranded.
the ECM on california model 98-99 are failing at a realy good rate now (A federal pcm will get you to pass smog inspection and not be noticed..
the battery is a critical part of most new computer controlled Dodge's, Dodge Durango, Dodge Dakota's, Rams, Caravans, etc.
As long as it looks good and has some service papers, i'd buy it DodgeDurango!

I'd just like to add that it is good to check how much rust is underneath! I'm not sure where you're located but as an East cost Durango owner rust is a huge headache for me. Other than that it is always good to check the maintenance schedule. If all of the fluids haven't been changed in a while it is good to do them. The transmission, transfer case, and differentials are often overlooked and are relatively easy to drain and fill. Ball joints would be something else to check. Best of luck to you!
