Too bad it's gonna be a unibody. Body-on-frame would have provided better tow capability, one of the key selling features of the D. Let's see how the 7 (or 8) passenger works out. Not really excited about a "stretch" Jeep.

If it's a unibody, I'll move into a Tahoe if Chevy is still around. I just got my 06 D one week ago and I love it. I want and need a truck based family hauler not a modern day station wagon (cross over)

Do you hear me Dodge?

The unibody move was set in stone 3 years ago. It's a unibody? and so will be the Ford and so will be the Chevy.

Frames will be left to Trucks, not SUVs. Development and progress moves on regardless. Personally, I have no problem with it. If I want to tow, I'll get a truck. Otherwise?

Looks like Chrylser has radically redesigned the D, only this time for the better! IMO I can't say it trumps the Gen 1, but it's a much needed stylistic improvement for the Durango. It looks beastly yet fashionable. Still the Gen 1 will always be the most rugged and versatile of the Durango line. I'll surely be keeping my eye on this new D though.

I understand the basic idea behind a steel frame for towing, but will the unibody not be able to tow at all or as much? Perhaps the unibody can be reinforced strengthened somehow to improve towability.

Go to
Trailer Life Towing Guide and check out the differences between the Durango Hemi and the GJC Hemi. It may not all be apples to apples because the rear end gearing isn't specified on the GJC.
BTW that towing guide has a wealth of info on towing, regardless of tow vehicle or load, and is worth reading through.

Definitely looks Cherokee based

Damn those concealing covers. I wonder what the penalty is for the guys who fit these covers on the truck if they were to take a picture of the vehicle before they covered it and leaked it on the net?

If it'll be available in SRT8 version I might me tempted to get a second D and convert it to hydrogen which is getting popular here in Iceland. Funny to see steam and water coming out of the exhaust :]
