I am looking at a 2017 GT, which in the carfax report, it shows the steering column replaced. My mind goes to "it was stolen" but that's just how I think. Why would it have been replaced?

Stolen is about the only reason I can think of.

There is no wheel lock or ignition switch so not sure why it would have to be replaced if stolen. Could have been a bad steering column module and not the entire steering column as it contains the clockspring and other switches.

Maybe due to a bad tilt system.

There are numerous electronics and joints in the steering system. There are a dozen reasons that it could fail and most of those parts are not individually stocked, so they may have replaced the whole column due to labor costs or parts availability.
