Just ordered my Durango Hellcat

Sorry for the long post. This is my first time posting here but have been a reader here for sometime. I have joined to share this chapter in my life just as everyone else has. I ordered my DHC on November 12th with no issues. Other then the basics in life, you know getting married 18 years ago, my son being born 12 years ago, ordering this machine was extremely exciting! My heart was pounding when I left the dealership and saying to myself, did this just happen?!!! I’ve been on this natural high since...lol.

Anyways.... not to get off the current topic but I happened to read from two places that when you purchase this angry machine, that Dodge gives you a days lesson at the Bondurant Driving School. Any truth to this? Dealership knew nothing about it.

I do agree that they had a certain amount of engine blocks available, and with the change of emissions, this was a way to unload them. Makes great sense. To add, dealership that I purchased from said, delivery date was anywhere from March-May. The one dealership that I wanted to purchase from told me straight up... will not be able to get it. Said, 1500 or so will be made and with over 2500 dealership out there.... good luck and congrats if you do get it.

Look forward to the spring time... driving upstate to the lake house with the sunroof open and the sound from the supercharger and exhaust echoing throughout!!!

Yes, the purchase of any new SRT allows you to participate in the SRT school at Bondurant. You have one year from the date of the purchase to sign up for one of the classes (schedule in the link below). I have done this for both my 14 JGCSRT and my 18 DDSRT. You have to get yourself there and pay for lodging (if applicable) but the day is well worth the trip. I paid for my wife to join me such that she could partake in the same experience. It was a lot of fun. The great news is you drive their cars of course. No need to worry about tearing up your own ride. If you want to do the two day class or another offering you can use your 1-day credit to apply to the other classes if you so choose. Feel free to ask any additional questions that come to mind.

I don't believe ordering has closed. Not sure why it is being stated here. I couldn't get to my dealer last Saturday. Told him I would be in this week. He never mentioned hurry up before they close ordering.
FCA has never mentioned a window for ordering that I'm aware of.
I am still debating whether it is worth the money. Is it really going to be "collectible"? That market depends on the buyers. The only Mopar muscle that has proven to be highly sought after are the late 60s/early 70s muscle cars. If I decide to pull the trigger on this it certainly won't be dependent on how much I think it'll be worth down the road.
But if I decide not to I'm very likely to get the '21 SRT. The restyled interior and Harman Kardon audio being the key reasons. Wife has pretty much left it up to me to decide...:unsure:

nobody to my knowledge has said ordering is closed. Just that some dealers can not get an allocation. I don't think they can make as many as is ordered because they likely have a finite hellcat motor allowance, hence why I think Kuniskas threw out his max 2000 number.

The DHC ordering is still open and has not been defined as to when they will close. There are two different orders, 1) Allocated DHC to Dealers. Those who order an allocated DHC will be guaranteed a vehicle. 2) Regular DHC orders will be taken with the stipulation you may not receive the vehicle. Because of the retooling of Plant this year for new Grand Cherokee platform and limited Covid workforce schedule their best guess is 2k units. However, that can change with Covid vaccine distribution etc...But the hard fact is production will only be six months because of re tooling. ( I talked to a very reliable source when ordering my allocated DHC)

I agree and seems strange to say the least. But this is also the guy who told me to Purchase my Durango RT in 2015 instead of lease because he believed they were going to badge many vehicles with the Hellcat. So now I’ve made my last payment and have a nice trade in or private sell cushion against the DHC. 🤷‍♂️

How many of you guys ordered the Laguna Leather seats and are being charged the $1595 for them?
This appeared on my build sheet. I pointed out to my salesman, who then walked me over to his sales manager and GM, that on Dodge.com the Laguna Leather is listed as a No Charge option. Sure enough my build was $1595 less than theirs. The manager checked the site himself and agreed it was showing as a NC option for the HC only. It is a $1595 option for the SRT which probably adds to the confusion.
Anyway, he said they will contact their regional rep Monday and get it cleared up but they will honor the dodge.com price either way. Anyone else being charged should point this out.

I pointed out the same thing to my salesman. He had no clue. He said it may be a mistake on the website or on their build site when we ordered. Either way they will honor whatever dodge.com says at the time of delivery

This is very interesting. You guys have me wondering a lot now about this. So I emailed my sales guy and asked the same question about the seats and about the status of our order.

His reply was...

” Hi good afternoon Mike, I just got your email. And regarding your question, it’s in BG Status which states “order has passed edit but cannot be considered for scheduling” so I’m guessing it won’t be in production until all 1,500 units have been put in. And as far with the Laguna seats it’s probably a glitch because when I try to order another Hellcat it comes up as an $1595 option.“

He will be calling me on Monday with a follow up. Anyways....

There is no limit number, just a six month production run apparently. I also doubt they won’t start production until “all” orders are in, never heard of that before. Production of the HC is slated for January 21. Likely to be seen trickling into owners hands a few weeks thereafter.

Yeah, and Tim is very tight lipped on this subject. All he said is, the number of units made depends on production. What he didn't say was, units made depend on demand

Factor in the Durango was suppose to go through a major redesign even possibly moving to a unibody frame, then add covid complications. I think maybe customers got lucky with having a DHC offered. They possibly did this to buy some time for the 2021 year and keep interest in the brand. Until the 2022-23 unveil. ( but I’m absolutely speculating)

FCA had quite a few new models that have come out or are about too. Grand Wagoneer, TRX, 392 Wrangler, New Grand Cherokee, Gladiator last year too, and supposedly another 3 row SUV. Could be the next gen Durango on a 1500 platform?

I believe you meant possibly moving to a "body on frame" design. It is currently a unibody.

Most of these guys like to appear that they "know" but the truth usually finds a way to show itself.
The salesman I deal with is the same one I bought my SRT from. When I texted him to confirm that the Laguna seats were a "NC option" he replied, sure. But can you clarify what NC means?
Seriously? NC has been used as far back as I can remember by auto manufacturers to denote a "No Charge" option.
The day I went to the dealer I asked if I could see a 2021 D to look at the interior in person. He said we only have one but let's go take a look at it. I get in the driver's seat, look at the dash/console and I'm looking at a spitting image of my 2018. Meanwhile he's describing the "changes" to me. Sure enough I glanced at the sticker as we left the vehicle and it said, 2020 Durango...😕
I don't put a lot of faith in what these people say. Consider the source before you take what you hear as gospel.
