after 108,000 miles, the torque convertor went on my D and decided to take the tranny with it. Started getting some hesitation between 1st and 2nd this spring. Maybe I could have saved the tranny if I ran it right down to the Stealer, but ignored it hoping it was something simple. replaced some things and it didn't get much worse so I continued towing my 6,000 lb camper around all summer. Bad choice and now my D is in for open heart surgery.

After weighing my options, I decided to go to a local shop. Martin Saine was my first choice, but the shipping would have been a killer along with the install. Heavy D gave me a good price for his extra one, but no warantee and a $600 bill to install it, the choice was made for me. $2400 to remove, rebuild and replace locally. The place was recommended to me by 4 different people with rave reviews. After talking with them, I went for it.

I'll be getting a heavy duty Torque convertor for towing. They ream the valve bore and sleeve it to remove the wear on the shifting valve. They had a Ram in there that plows and tows and he's getting the same build. The guy that owns the place knows his stuff and I'm sure my D will be up and running better than new in no time. It's supposed to be done next week. I didn't have an appointment when I dropped it off and it's an extra vehicle for me so I'm not in a major hurry. (that and the $2400 bill waiting at the end)

Say a prayer for my D to have a speedy recovery.

Dwayne it should all work out fine. Keep us posted and if all goes well post the shops name up so anyone in the area may get a nice job done as well.
Maybe he should install a heavier Duty Cooler as well with the new Tranny and get rid of the tiny stock one

Dwayne,

Steve has a very good point about the tranny cooler. You do a lot of towing with her. I'd consider that

One thing you may want to consider is having a drain plug installed in the pan. I had Martin Saine do one for mine. It makes draining a lot easier in that you don't have to drop the pan.

I talked with them about a tranny cooler. they advise against it as it'd throw more heat into the engine as it'd block the radiator more. he said the size we have is good enough to handle the towing.

I'll report back once I get it as to the shifting and then I'm ready for more racing. maybe that's why I keep losing my races? LOL :?

anyway, can't wait to drive my new D.

I don't agree with that. But that's just my opinion

+1 That place sucks and the more I read about it the more it continues to under-impress.

I have the tranny cooler AND oil cooler on my D. Never an issue and baby-driving my D doesn't happen much (ever).

Tow that damn D out of there and RUN FAST! They suck.

Update?

Well I picked my D up 2 weeks ago. Damn it was nice to feel that thing run right for a change? well, almost. I noticed a shimmy between 45 and 50 under a light load. I brought it back, but they couldn't reproduce it. I thought? "here I go again". why is it that everytime I get something fixed, I have to go through this?

I brought it back on Friday and I was able to duplicate it with them in the car. They agreed that the TC they got delivered was chattering. Due to my schedule, it'll get replaced first thing next year. I took a lot of heat for having this company fix my tranny from the advice they gave about adjusting bands, but they're doing right by me and will replace the faulty TC. I'll be taking some pictures of the worn parts they replaced in the transmission. I'm surprised it still moved with the amount of damage I inflicted on it. anyway, it sure is nice driving a D that shifts crisp and clean.

Boy did I miss driving it.

Your not towing a decent size Camper either and Dwayne was the second owner of his D and there's no way to tell how that person treated the D.
You on the other hand don't baby yours but you do take care of it like I do mine
We drive them like we Stole them but them treat them to some good care
