Why......

I really wanna know with the ample amount of problems these vehicles have do we still continue to buy them. My Durango has been relatively solid for 2 years....minor issues here and there. However. Now I have a #4 Misfire that I just cant troubleshoot. Coil is new, plug is new. I hit a deer (no damage) and now im getting a #4 mis that just wont go away. Reset the Computer by disconnecting the battery. Comes right back. Im thinking about buying a new coil but before I do that is there anything else I need to check.

3.6L pentacrap
SXT Durango 2012.

Move the coil with another one (example #6)... if that cylinder triggers a code (#6) then you have a bad coil...

If #4 continues to throw a coil then you might have a harness issue, ECM, etc?
Yeah Im gonna pull the plenum today and swap around the coils and see if it moves. If it doesnt Then could the #4 injector be bad and how do I check it because the intake plenum is in the way.

Pull the intake? Oops sorry I am very familiar with 5.7 Hemi V8, just realized your V6.

Doesn't matter the concept is the same...

Usually, Injectors are check with a "noid light"... I am sure there are extension harness available... But you might be able to view injector pulse width and duty cycle on a quality scanning tool (i.e., Snap-on, etc.)?

You could also pull a spark plug out and see how that cylinder is firing...

Yeah. The 3.6L intake Plenum is a weird design. The passenger side is easily accessible. Drivers side is not. So the spark plugs, coils and injectors are covered. Now its not too difficult but some of the bolts on the intake plenum are really difficult to reach without an extension and universal and you cant see anything youre working on.

You basically just want them all to be within 10 lbs of each other as they won't all read low. Just make sure both valves are closed on each cylinder when you measure it.

Not really but ive used some of their tools for a long time with no issues. But as I was removing the fuel rail to see if I have a bad injector my "magnetic" torx bit let a bolt and it fell down into the head. Now I gotta take the lower intake plenum off and get new gaskets. Joy. Once thats done im gonna swap injectors 2 and 4 see if the miss moves to the #2 if it does then I have a bad injector If thats not it then im gonna check the wiring with a multimeter to see if im getting proper voltage and if that passes then ill check the compression of #4.

Shop towels would be better than paper towels as they are more flexible and softer to fit nooks and crannies.

Ok, I will try to be a little more clear as my last hint did not work.
JC Hemi- THIS IS NOT A RECALL. Please stop guiding him in the wrong direction. A recall is SAFETY related and the manufacturers HAVE to fix the vehicle free of charge. No matter the age/mileage/year/owner, This was a TSB, which says “yea we messed something up but it is not safety, so if the customer complains about this AND the vehicle is still under factory warranty we will fix it.” There were probably 150-200 TSB’s for this Durango. The dealer is not going to honor any TSB with 175K miles on the clock. If you don’t want to take my word for it, take the time to read the TSB that was attached.

First simmer down buddy. We are all here to help.

I am NOT leading him in the wrong direction. If the TSB was ever done at a dealership then it in their system.

For the record, you’re the one that mentioned recall.

@ JR:
As JC Hemi says, if the repair was done on your D, it should be in the dealer's data base. I say should, because we have heard of instances where this was not done, to the detriment of the customer. As I read it, this particular program Is considered a warranty extension, hence the mentioned X56 Warranty Extension ID.
This means it will be done at no cost to the customer within the guidelines of the extension. IIRC, this one was 10 yrs, or 150k miles. Since JR's D is at 171k, it would not be eligible.

Yeah I was wondering about that. I just need to make this SUV last another year or so. So I dont think the TSB will cover me as the vehicle is well beyond its warranty. So. Think ill just forgo contacting them. However if it was already "fixed" and fails again MOPAR/FIAT/Dodge should cover it.
