Here's a thread that I see on a lot of car forums that is pretty fun to look through.

So, what did you do today? It can be anything from a fresh wash to ordering new parts!

Over the weekend I added some new premium engine coolant called "Rain-X"

Interestingly, my windshield spray ran out of juice.

I may have mixed things up

All kidding aside, the coolant and windshield wiper reservoirs look REALLY similar, and both with yellow caps and a liquid logo on the top?! What were they thinking.

Over the weekend I installed a Whipple supercharger and broke my radiator.

Whipple says that on 8psi and 91 octane the kit is good for about 465hp/430tq. I will be using 93 octane and a custom tune by Johan (diablotoona) so I'm hoping to be in the 475hp/450tq range, mostly because I like nice round numbers.

After the radiator gets replaced (hopefully by Thursday) I'll be hooking up a wideband O2 sensor to my Trinity so I can do some datalogging and then put it on the dyno probably in early June.

For those that are interested, here's a cell phone video of the first start up:

NICE I am using Johan as well now for my tune
Truck seems a lot better

Yeah, I can't wait to start driving and tuning it.

I'll put together a write-up, maybe I'll start on that tonight after work? I won't go step-by-step with pictures and descriptions because the instructions have some 160 steps and I'd say they're about an 85-90% solution. I don't mind highlighting the differences to make it more Durango-specific but I'm just not going to re-write ALL of those steps. You've read the instructions, I'm sure you can understand how in-depth that would be, and I just don't have the time or desire to reinvent that wheel.

Overall, if you get all the right tools and don't punch a hole in your radiator, it's probably a 5 or 6 on the difficulty scale where assembling an engine from the bare block would be a 10 and putting gas in the tank is a 1. Another way to look at it: I bought a 12-pack of beer for during the install and I've still got 5 bottles left so I guess that makes it a 7/12!

I know I didn't get as many pictures as I should have but I'll take more when I get it back. Videos--absolutely. We got a GoPro about a month ago in preparation for this and another car that I'll want videos of.

This would be great, and what do you know, we just happen to have a new "How-To" section that this will fit nicely into!

How perfect. I was just saying to myself, "Self, you should put this thread you've just promised in the newly formed 'How To' section."

Believe a lot of the 15-specific issues have to do with the PCM. No one has been able to crack it yet, so no custom tunes for the supercharger.

#129 ·
So far 15's will need a PCM swap in order to custom tune for any tuning at all not just SC'd applications. A lot of Jeep guys are swapping to 14pcm's in their SRT's to get tuning for mods. Good news though the 14 pcm works fine in the 15

Installed the morimoto HIDs, morimoto 3157 front led bulbs, and the K&N intake.

Hids are a huge improvement, I'm having a issue where when I turn them off, one is a second slower than the other. I'm to OCD for that, I'll figure it out.

The led bulbs are really great quality, brighter than stock, and are friendly with the canbus system WITHOUT extra capacitors, plug and play.

The intake, well not impressed. In the pics it looked plastic, turns out its painted aluminium which is a lot louder. Pretty much too loud for a family car. Throttle response is improved, and I'm sure it's good for a few hp as well. I'll probably keep it on, just cause I can't return it. But fit and finish were sub par, and the noise is more than expected on a already loud motor. If I had to do it again, I may have gone with the airraid one.

That looks good! You will get more and more used to the K&N....I had it on my 13 R/T and at first it really growled loudly but now that I have the Mopar one, I want the K&N growl back.

Hows the effect on Gas Mileage? My Dad wants to get the 3.6 and I want to get him a K&N so it grows a bit...

DEBADGED.

Was so fearful for so long on doing this.. afraid to mar the paint, scratch the lights, get stuck midway thru the project and ending up with just "DUR" on the trunk.

The "DODGE" on the lights came off in :30 seconds with just a needle nose pliers and medium force. No residue remained.

The "DURANGO" came off in about :90 seconds with fishing line and hard, steady pressure. No "sawing", just a hard steady pull.

The hardest part is the foam and adhesive.. after the afternoon sun heated it, it came off with use of Goo-Gone and a vinyl/tint flexible plastic thing and lots of elbow grease..

Total time was about a half an hour.. really happy with the results..

Modified newly installed K&N intake. It was too loud and annoying for such a quiet and smooth vehicle.

Took off the metal tube and put the stock one back on. Kept the filter and heat shield. Had to install a grommet and fitting for the crank vent, but pretty easy. Has a nice grunt to it, but no more moan and slurp like a rice burner Honda.

Pipe is for sale.

Interesting.. I've been considering this mod.. Wish youd decided both.. Woulda been interested in hearing how it was with the pipe..
Looks like you have a Citadel, so I definitely wouldn't, too classy. If you wouldn't put an exhaust on it, do do this either. It's that loud.

I'd go with the airrade intake and keep the stock tube.

While I would have minded an r/t, I don't think the v6 is any slouch. I couldn't find an rt anywhere near me that had a bench 2nd row. I like the rallye wheels better as well. So I got sweet looks and better milage. I have my other car to go fast.

The intake helped with the throttle response that it was lacking. A worthy mod in my opinion, however the noise was embarrassing. My new set up is perfect.
