Here's a thread that I see on a lot of car forums that is pretty fun to look through.

So, what did you do today? It can be anything from a fresh wash to ordering new parts!

I never said anyone has to agree with me! I do know I'm not the only one that thinks it. I don't care what you or anyone else thinks. I do my own thing and am not looking for approval. If you like putting covers on your calipers to make them look like something they're not, have at it.

I love seeing stuff like this...and by "love" I actually mean "hate".

Someone posts a mod and asks "what do you folks think?" Inevitably, there is a string of "I love it" and "awesome job" comments but eventually someone says "nope, looks like crap". That turns into "haters gotta hate" and "It's their car, let them mod it however they want. You ain't paying for it so why you hatin'?" and crap like that.

If you don't want opinions, don't post stuff on the internet. Certainly don't post things about cars on a car forum that is made up of car enthusiasts and expect to only get positive comments. Not everyone is going to like all your mods. Believe it or not, not everyone is going to agree with everything that anyone does. Deal with it.

Now, about the caliper covers that started this....I don't like them. It has less to do with them being look-a-like Brembos, which I do think is part of the intent behind them, but more to do with the fact that they look cheap. I would never use them. If you wanted a colored caliper, use caliper paint. The covers go in the same category as fake fender vents, stick-on chrome trim, or any other AutoZone/O'Reilly/Pep Boys/Walmart accessory. It looks cheap and its not functional so I just don't like it.

And before anyone says I wouldn't feel the same way if someone was "hatin' on" my mods: I'm sure there's someone that thinks putting a supercharger on their Durango is the stupidest mod and the biggest waste of money. I'm ok with that. If that's you, tell me you think it's stupid and explain to me why I should have spent that money on something more worthwhile....like caliper covers, fender vents, LED light bars, and big loud speakers....

You argued my point for me. In the same vein as someone not liking your particular set of mods, not everyone is going to like your opinion (your mods are essentially a personification of your opinion/tastes, so the logic extends outward, naturally). In other words, "I don't like your caliper covers" is just as relevant as "I don't like the reason you don't like my caliper covers" which is subsequently just as relevant as "I don't like that you don't like the reason for someone not liking something." I'd argue the latter opinion (yours) is the most wasteful, as it's the most obvious and thus the most unnecessary addition to the dialog (and you'll forgive me for saying, but it's also the most adversarial, as it subtly implies it's okay for one person to share their opinion, but not for the other -- as you highlighted with your somewhat hypocritical "deal with it" comment).

Either way, it's a forum, and all discussions relevant to the board or topic are totally welcome, I assume. Personally, it's not the "I don't like the caliper covers" I really took an issue with, it was the connotation of negativity applied to it by using language that is derogatory toward the user, either implicitly ("minus the poser covers") or explicitly (outright belittling someone for making a personal choice that hasn't affected the individual in any way). It just follows a very juvenile mentality, something I don't tend to associate with "enthusiasts."

As you said, to each their own. For the most part, Chewy wasn't being offensive, but I have seen the discussion go in a different direction before, and it just seems silly to berate someone or make them feel they're inferior because of some arbitrary standard you've created.

And I'll ignore your Supercharger analogy, as it was totally hyperbolic. Anyone that thinks a supercharger on their D is stupid should be summarily ejected from the earth and forced to float endlessly in the void of space, which is almost as black as their heart.

Blacked out all the chrome trim on my 2014 Citadel, including the grille. Used a gloss AutoFlex on the rims, mirrors, and door handles. Also tinted the headlights and taillight.

It's very very easy. It went so fast I didn't take any pics. Fold the 2nd row seats forward. There are four plastic caps to remove with four 10mm bolts behind them. The console then can be tilted and the power clip unclipped. Then the console bracket is removed. I taped over the connector end with electrical tape and tucked it up close to the plastic it comes out from. There are 2 Allen bolts that need to be removed for the small console to be fastened to. The smaller console mat then just sits over the location, and use the 4 10mm bolts you removed to attach the small console to the floor. The small console has some tabs on the bottom that need to be cut off so that it will sit flush with the carpet on the rear side. Was super simple to remove with a vibrating cutting tool I had. All in all took me like 15 minutes.

There is a thread in this forum that posted what parts to buy. You don't need to buy the extra bolts and clips, just the console parts.

I didn't have a tool to cut the plastic down on the min-console (or the patience to go find one), so I just cut the upholstery and foam a little bit and got it to sit flush (I don't plan on reinstalling the other console).

Installed Rear Road Magnet springs yesterday. Fronts go in tomorrow at the shop. Figured I would install them to help the shop out a little. Also did SRT Steering wheel last week.

^^ I used vinyl and knife less tape to go around the edges. So tinted vinyl on the clear part and then gloss vinyl on the reflective part.

Had a new windshield cowl and windshield installed. Bought my R/T certified pre-owned with a chip in the center that had been badly repaired. Put up with it for four years. Then the edges started bubbling and I noticed the cowl hadn't been properly re-installed at the auto body shop during accident repair. Turns out when they removed it they tore the clips and it was just hanging there. It was brittle and discolored, so I opted to just replace it. Think I'll be applying some UV protectant to the new one.

Thanks! The taillight and headlights were vinyl tinting. i tested it during the day and at night, and the brightness was fine. I actually have to have the taillight redone because there's a blemish and it really shows when the brake lights are on at night.

The rims, mirrors, and door handles were done in AutoFlex gloss. The other chrome trim was done in Halo (satin). I'm really happy with how it turned out. I just got it washed today (couldn't wash it for a few days after) and it looks like a Storm Trooper.

I had it done in something called Halo (satin). It's more durable than Plasti-dip, but it's still removable if need be.

Today I was the FIRST time i ever drove or seen my Durango with matching interior trim.

The way it has been the last 7months from delivery. Bright (brushed aluminum look) Door Panels, and Simulated wood grain dash.

And today after the dealer finally received the parts and installed them. All "bright" panels. Sorry for the glare off my leg, I'm so pale I glow. (medically can't be in direct sunlight over 5-10mins.

The day I showed them I was able to see how hard the dealer had to fight for warranty on the trim. Digital pictures, conference calls, at the end he was as pissed as I was. BUT they made it happen! Great guys/gals there at the dealership.
