Another drive.. no CarPlay drops at all, circled the area where it happened (before it was every damn time, now no drops).. valet mode is working perfect and no pop ups saying “Uconnect Box requires service.” For the first time in months (if not a year) of it happening daily.

 

If I had a '21 I'd install it in a heartbeat - unless I didn't have problems because some, maybe most, '21s don't have problems.

 

We (MY21) all have the sames exact bugs but what is different is that a few people have Uconnect Box errors. I for one never had that error but i think it is much more evident then what is reported here. This is because there are at least 4 TSBs for Durango Uconnect Boxes. TSBs are driven by customer to dealer complaints and STAR escalation.

 

I'll maybe try tomorrow if I can find a big enough USB drive. I have a 21 tng

I bet OTA updates is a pure pipe dream for Dodge cause 16+ gigs for the latest update? That is a lot of cash for data usage Dodge will have to pay ATT and I cannot believe they will do it.
The 17.89 to 17.99 update was simply only a few files which is why the OTA update worked but as you know, 17.89 was needed to be installed via USB.

 

I did some deep diving and it seems someone bundled the Nav update with the firmware which is why it’s so big. The bundle doesn’t work since my Nav didn’t update without the separate download. I might try to remove that and test to see if the smaller package works to upgrade just the radio. It’s unnecessarily large and 16GB of it is useless from what I can tell.

Here is the file comparison once I removed the 16GB nav payload files. Will give this a test here in a little bit and see if it works. (File size is 3.57GB without nav)

Edit: A little more digging and the nav was supposed to be there but it might have been specific to the Ram release which is why it didn't update my system. I pulled the payload and dereferenced it from the manifest for my test.

 

In the past I've always updated my Chrysler vehicle systems manually. If the file didn't work the system would tell you it's incompatible. I've given up on expecting OTA updates.

 

That was what gave me the confidence to push forward... if they have a least one competent person involved at Uconnect you won't be able to use the wrong software and brick the system, in hindsight I guess that was a bigger risk than I thought.

 

I am going to try the NAV update again as I added that 9th empty file.

 

yes add all nine. i was skeptical at first too but it wont do it without. It will say it has been modified download again.

 

The empty file is the key. Took about 35-40 minutes to update which was succesful. Great thing is, the maps are 100 percent dissociated with the operating system so I was able to use the radio for everything except NAV but I used AA with google maps during the update. Now I am waiting to hear from my super duper contact at Mopar about the update (specifically) for our trucks and why is another version for Rams and Pacifica's in the wild.

I am supposed to be a freaking beta tester. LOL Lies all Lies.

 

Holy Crap guys, this is the real deal. Drove around a couple times through areas where I get wireless AA drops and not a single disconnect. I was a bit worried because the nav was going crazy and did not know where I was, but I did a factory reset and it seemed to have solved the issue. So far, happy with this version for sure!

Holy crap... No way. This might just get me to do this "bootleg" upgrade.

 

I downloaded the 2022/09 map from Stellantis and did the update. Took awhile, but it seemed to go ok, map shows latest version. Even though it's a new 2023 DD, it had old map pre-loaded. I assuming these Uconnect units are sitting on shelf with old maps, they are not going to waste time updating them.

Update went smoothly. Hopefully the guy who leaked it, will continue to, as FCA has left us Durango owners to go screw. Unreal how fd up they are.

 

The modified test didn’t work so it’s the 16GB update or nothing it seems. I likely missed something when I tossed it together but I’m not sure I’ll have any time to mess with it again soon.

 

I wonder if the software is smart enough NOT to upgrade my maps which are already updated.

Also, for anyone complaining about themes, themes have sucked from the 1st day Uconnect started to use them so suck it up and deal with it until DECEMBA when the updated themes are scheduled to come out!



Maybe your themes are wierd cause Durano themes are not included with the Ram/RU update?

 

Confused why people aren't just loading the big file? It doesn't get any easier. What am I missing??

 

I figured it was either slow internet or not having a large enough thumb drive? I have 1 gig fiber and a 256GB Thumb drive so the size wasn't a problem for me.

 

So they fcked with the themes again. Lost the all black theme. Some is black, but now a lot of grey thrown in. I don't understand the theme changes, and sound changes. What they should be doing is actually fixing bugs. One plus, is no uconnect error this morning.

 

I’m on day 2 with no Uconnect pop up error messages. The only bug I have is that I can’t save to USB thumb drive from the SRT pages and when it errors out I have to reboot to see the performance pages again. Other than that it’s been nearly flawless.

 

I loaded it on my wifes 21 Grand Cherokee L last night, ran out of time to load on my DDSRT. I did notice the same thing about the theme. A lot more grey in the mix. Loaded the updated maps also...Ill see if she has ay issues today when she drives to work and back....

 

I formatted my 32gb stick to NTFS and had no issues with updating

 

This is writing to the USB when saving drive stats not when updating.

 

Although up to 2 TB drive can be formatted in FAT32, the problem here may be that FAT32 has a max 4 GB file size. So if this update file is about 20 GB zipped, it won't go onto a FAT32 drive.

 

Sorry my 32 gig quote was based on stupid windows default limitations.

 

2021 Dodge Durango R/T UConnect Box message

Anyone experience the following message: "Uconnect Box requires service. Please visit an authorized dealer." I did take it to my dealer, they kept it overnight, seemed unaware of the issue and according to the paperwork, "reset" the video screen. I purchased this vehicle new last year...

This update will be fine until I get rid of the vehicle. Works perfectly now.

 

I truly feel sorry for future owners of Mopar's EV vehicles. They can't get UC5 even somewhat usable the 1st go around. Made it somewhat usable 1.5 years later and now 3 years after MY21 showed up we still (technically) don;t have an update to make the system what it should have been on release. If Dodge does not give a crap about Durango owners, WHY would anyone think a dealer would. This is not about Durango owners this is about Dodge owners who will migrate to a better vehicle for the future once their time with the current Durango is over.

Agree 100%, I won’t even humor dodge for an EV. This has been enlightening, and this company clearly isn’t capable of managing software driven products.

 

I did find one bug.. When I first loaded the update, there is an option to have the time/date show if you turn the screen off. It worked at first, but I then updated the maps, adn yesterday, it wasnt working. i know this is one minor issue, and I dont know if it had something to do with the map update or not.....

 

Track record shows an impossability of Dodge getting things fixed without causing bug regression. Seems like, HEY GUYS , UCONNECT 5 booted so lets send it out to the vehicles. LOL

 

Dodge is dead when they go to all EV. The extra cost pays for a lot of gas lol. Clown show. As for uconnect its not a durango thing its a mopar thing. Ive always gone on the hunt for updates manually. OTA is fake news.

 

I give up on the stooges at Uconnect and trying to get a response, so I am going to try the update. Wish me luck.
