transmission slipping?AGAIN?!?!?!

Last nite I was out with the D and the tranny started "slipping." I looked at the gauges and the yellow light (not sure if it's the tranny light but a yellow light that I refer to as the drivetrain light) is on. I came to a light and when I tried to pull off, it seemed like I didn't have any power. I almost floored it to get moving. Once it got movin at 25 and shifted it was fine. Is this first gear loss? What do I do? What do I check? TIA

I checked for any codes and it threw a P0753.

If it's the sensor, I believe it's fairly easy to DIY fix. Less than 30 minutes. You could do it with instructions from the DOC or a tranny shop. Never the dealer my man, never the dealer.

If it's the bands, then again the tranny shop and not the dealer. You could adjust those yourself, but personnaly I leave that to the pros. If they do the bands, get the tranny refilled with ATF+4, a new Mopar filter, and have the diffs serviced at the same time. Done every 50k or less and never a problem. Left alone and not touched, certainly you'll have problems that'll recur.

Has the tranny been regularly serviced? Tranny shop service with diffs and proper fluids, less than $200. Dealer servicing, more than $600.

I had it serviced at the dealer a few (five) months ago. Had em adjust the bands, fill with ATF+4, new filter and adjust the kickdown cable. It ran like it never ran before. Really responsive and it'd been running great until last nite. I think all of my recent problems are somehow related to my radiator hose blowout. Could this problem now be from something electrical under the hood getting screwed up from anti-freeze spewing?

I'm onsite at a client so I won't be able to get at my P-code info for a couple of days but, as a rough guess, it sounds electrical. Until I can see what causes that code, that's a very very rough guess.

Well, I think it's?

This is either the governor circuit (likely given the lamp) or an overrunning clutch problem. If it's fine in Manual 1, then I'd suspect the ORC.

Either way, you need a DRB and a set of pressure gauges to confirm.

My 2¢

Thanks, at least I know what I hafta do first. I'd still love more input on this problem. I don't like the D being sick. It's like as soon as she gets sick, everyone who know something about em took a break. I'm no expert by far, hell I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn recently.
Help!!

P753 is the overdrive shift solenoid circuit, and it's reporting that the voltage it sees on the wire isn't what it expects.

The FSM suggests checking things like the transmission fuse, transmission control relay, wiring harnesses and connectors? lots of "check connector - clean and repair as necessary" in the diagnostic chart.

Certainly sounds related to the under-the-hood bath your D got with all that coolant. The plus side, if you get at it yourself and clean it up, there's no service bill. Good luck.

Note to readers: both Rick and I have experienced a top radiator hose failure.<ul>Me - (Mis)adventures of a blown hose
Rick - She left me stranded[/list]I suggest you guys look at replacements.

Yes it's the soleniod! I had to replaced both of mine. You'll see them as soon as you take the trany panny off. As a matter of fact, I got the whole info on how to change them right here at the good ole DOC Fourm :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: Just go to the archives and it should be there. Mine was doing the same thing yours is doing.

As if things weren't bad enough, I have an appointment tomorrow to get it checked out and now it won't start! It's turning over, so it's not a batt issue, buit it just won't fire up. This definitely has to be something electrical connected to everything else. What/where could it be?!?!?! What should I get the shop to check out?? I really need some help with this one. I don't wanna pay a shop hours of labor just guessing.

<u>Update:</u>
I think I found my starting problem. I found a vaacuum hose disconnected and, once I reconnected it, she started right back up with no problems. But I'm still having tranny troubles. It's at the shop now. I'd still like to have some kinda knowledge on what's going on. Thanks for some suggestions but I'd like someone to tell me "most likely the problem is? and check this or that."

The D is back home in her garage and she's running great! It cost me $151.60 for a $17.50 relay (which we'd swapped out with another with the same part # before I took it to the shop), $60 for the CPU hookup, and $65 shop labor. I don't think it's that bad considering they had the D for 2 days and were troubleshooting for at least a few hours. They told me the old relay had a broken leg. She's back to tip top shape but he said I still have a code (it doesn't show when I turn the key off and on 3 times) that should clear after I put some miles on it. He said if the code doesn't go away, or if the tranny acts up again, I'll need to replace the 3-4 gear solinoid. Other than that, my baby's back, starting right away again (since the vaacuum line was re-inserted), and roaring. Thanks for the input you guys gave.

BigRick,

A quick stop in an AutoZone and they can clear the code for you.

or

Do it yourself with the SuperChips tuner. It'll clear codes too.

If the code comes back, you know there's an issue. By clearing it right away, you don't have to wait to find out if it's all okay :)

If you need step by step on the SuperChips tuner after trying it yourself, I could probably walk you through it over the phone with mine.

Well

Did installing a new Relay Fix it again or not?
If it did my guess is some electrical contact points under your hood are still crudded up from the overheating episode
If not It may be time to call Fastman for a Martin Saine Tranny! :(

You don't mention how many miles are on the D. How long has it been since the bands were adjusted? Service should be done at 15-30k mi. Consisting of new filter, band adjustment and fluid. You could have a bad solenoid, or you may need bands adjusted, or you might have a broken band. All of these are possible. Solenoids are quite problematic on this tranny. I went through 4 sets of solenoids replaced before getting a Martin Saine tranny. Good luck.

I'm at a little over 109,000. I had my adjustments and fluid changed out less than a year ago or so. Less than 5,000 since done. If you read this post completely, you'll see that I had recent problems with the same code. If I shift into manual 1 it goes into 1st gear and it'll shift (manually)
by putting it back into drive. Any other info needed?
