Look, I'm not an idiot, but I have spent a good portion of the day looking for a Trailmaster add-a-leaf for my 2001 D. Anybody know of one in stock anywhere? :?:

BTW, desert rat wasn't able to find me one or assist with part #, etc. :(

I have got the P/N somewhere around here on my desk. I have saved it along with the numerous other P/Ns that I have written down on every piece of paper available to me. When I find it, and I'll, I'll post it. You're right though about looking it up on Trailmaster's website. They don't list the P/N alone but when you get the P/N and plug it in to their search function it's then recognized by then. Go Figure.

How long are the leafs? Is it just a short piece you put on top of the overload leaf or does it extend, say, within a foot of the eyes at each end?

If it's a shorty, anyone know a leaf I/we can order that's a longer type that'll beef up my spring pack? Thanks.

It's a shorty. It becomes the 2'nd one from the bottom. It's the clean one in the pic?

AAL

Thanks for posting the picture - yeah I'm looking to add about 400# capacity to my springs, I think the AAL is too short. I need to go to a spring place and have them add a larger leaf to my stock pack. I'll keep searching.

BTW, yours is an 01? I thought rear discs were stock with 01's? Guess not till 02?

Hey Smash, I think that those TM AALs are listed as Helper Springs but I'm not sure what the gains were.

It's an 01 with no rear discs. No fender flares either and the stock tires were tiny for a 4x4. They must have had some odd packages out that year?

Smash Rear disc weren't stock until 2003 model year
The add A Leaf will definitely give you 400 # extra capacity don't go to a spring shop they'll make your rear springs very stiff and give it a very jouncy ride!
The other option would be tha air lift air bags for rear they don't change ride at all and provide up to 1000# extra load capacity keep in mind the D will never be able to handle more than its design just based on rear springs.
There are other factors like trans /cooling system etc etc.

AAL

Steve-O, did those AALs increase the rear suspension height? How much? Also, what would someone expect to pay for those parts. Just doing an Christmas List. 8)

Thanks!

Found 'em. Forgot the name of the store, but the phone # is (866) 443-3111, ask for Chris. $63 shipped to my door. Part # R1536 from Trailmaster. Thanks to all for the assist.

FSTDANGO03 - no worries I have got $3K in towing mods - just did some helper coils to get by last summer but without the load they're killing my lower back!!

I actually found two great sites today, I'll be ordering the air lift springs after Christmas. Last year best price I could find was ~325, now they're 170. Sold. And I could only spend so much money last year!

I should get an Avatar and list all my towing mods sometime, and a pic. Been doing too many house mods lately to spend time on the D.

Smash, what are yoou towing that needs all that support?
I have been towing a 5000 lb trailer (6000 loaded) with my 2000 D - 5.9/Tow Package. The only adds I have made are FastmanTB/Quick D intake and Roadmaster Active Suspension. The Reese Dual Cam gets the trailer level and the D tows it like a champ.
I got the Ram to tow cross country because I wanted the longer wheelbase and better braking. On the plus side, the Hemi in my 2500 gets better towing mileage than the D does with the same load.

F.Y.I. - I have a 01 4.7 D that I?ve installed the Trail Master add-a-leaf on which I ordered through http://www.performancedepot.com/. - On the home page, do a search on the part number ?R1536? which should bring you to this page http://www.performancedepot.com/pdpartnumber_search.php?compid=99999&dealer=no&partnumber=r1536

This is a short spring (installed between the 4th and 5th leaf) and is claimed to raise the rear ~2?. I performed the installation myself and was very easy to do (approx 1 hour.) Prior to the installation, I took several measurements in the front and back so I'd know how high to crank up the front torsion bars relative to the rear. After completing the installation, I noticed it only lifted the rear of my D 1 inch. Although I was somewhat satisfied with the looks and ride, I was really hoping for a 2 inch lift.

I started doing research on the net for other options and ran across a place in Canada ?http://www.customsuspension.com/Products.php? that sells standard and custom add-a-leaf springs. Since they didn?t have anything for the Durango on their web page I called them up to see about pricing for customized add-a-leafs. Apparen'tly, they have a kit for the Durango that sells for $125 and is supposed to raise the rear 2.5 inches and increase load capacity. The spring is a long spring and is installed between the 1st (main) and second spring. I ended up ordering the add-a-leafs from them and they should be delivered within two weeks.

Raw - that's awesome research! Please post your results when you get them. 125 for the set of two? Good price. I'm not really interested in any lift, just stiffer, although if it's like 1" of lift I can crank up the front end.

SilverGhost - I had weak AC and read/heard about the weak cooling of the early D's without the elec fans, so I bought a BeCool, elec fan inbetween Rad & condenser, controller, 180 thermo, new water pump.

Then I put in a tranny temp sensor, GS remote tranny cooler, and all syn fluids everywhere except tranny. Then rancho 9000's. Fastman TB. Rear helper springs. $140 towing mirrors.

Brake controller, anti sway, and weight distribution I got when I got my trailer. 4K empty, 5K loaded.

Actually it's about $2500 probably at this point. I ordered 3.92's also, have yet to put them on. And I need to get with Scott again to get my dual fan pack and take off the factory fan totally. I'm taking out my driver's seat and adding an lumbar support to it, also. I think that'll be it.

My tow is from FL to CO in 100 degree heat, all the way up to 9500'. I was very impressed with the cooling system, but noticed that whenever I was hill climbing, the fan clutch would engage and take away like 25 HP and definitely the 3.92's would be an improvement.

Looking forward to some more spring Mods and another summer tow. Yeah the wheelbase I can see is definitely a factor, both in bounce and in sway - I can see why you long haul with the Pickup. If I had a 5.9 and intake/headers, that would probably be better but I have to stop throwing money at this truck! An Excursion-type vehicle would probably be better for towing, but hey, I love my D and this forum?

I'm adding a Fabtech leaf to my 2000 Durango's rear spring packs. My question is, what do you do with the metal bands that are around the stock spring packs? I'm too lazy to go out and take a picture, so I photochopped steveomatic's picture. I have added the approximate location of the bands that hold the spring pack in alignment. In order to add my Fabtech leaf I have to remove this band. Does anyone have any experience with this? Does running without the band hurt ahything? Steveomatic's picture doesn't show them, so maybe they don't exist for all model years. Any ideas?

I don't think the 2000's have the stopper bumps on the end of each leaf. The Fabtech leafs are much longer than the ones Steve used on his truck. I'm guessing the Fabtech leafs will go one down from the top, maybe two down.
