The weather finally held and it didn?t rain so I went to the track this past weekend? I've been waiting for two months for a chance to get out. Got the truck out and took it down the return lane for a warm up and everything felt fine.
Did a nice burnout to break in the new 12? drag radials then rolled up to the start line. I wasn?t going to do anything crazy and would start off with a 2000rpm launch to see if the tires would hold. Since it was a test and tune I waited until the light turned green as I wasn?t worried about a reaction time. The truck launched great with no tire spin. It pulled fine thru first gear. Then hit second with a pop-pop and sputtered so a quick shift into 3rd which got the same thing so I let out of it and coasted the rest of the track at 2000 rpms. I saw the O2 gauge was reading in the 8?s which is way too rich which is what caused the sputtering. I shut it down after I got off the track and towed it back to the trailer. With the fuel that rich, I didn?t want to wash out the cylinders and get fuel in the oil pan. Guess the fuel management went out or it could have a stuck fuel injector.
Anyway the cool thing was when I looked at the time slip. I didn?t expect much as I been thru this many times but here it is.
Next time out I should be able to get a better 60 foot as I can bring the launch rpms up (have a 3800 rpm stall) and I haven?t even tried the tranny brake system yet for launching as I?m using the line lock at the moment. Nice thing is everything on the truck feels fine. It?s not like in past years were I'd take it home for the season and change out things. Nothing needs to be changed, I need to be figure out what went wrong and go out and try again. I feel good about the attempt this weekend.
Picture of the new drag radials, 12" (390) tires on 12" rims, under the fender wells. They look killer from behind!
